Oh, I agree. There's always a back story. There's always a drama. Always a soap opera. I agree with you 100-percent.
I also agree that both John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan are better than good at spotting RB talent through the draft or on the waiver wire, signing that talent and developing it.
That's why I'm not so worried about the loss of Raheem and the other free agent losses.
It begins with the contract disagreement two years ago. IMO, that had more to do with his leaving than the injury prob last fall.
Look, the whole point of my first and second post was the following:
Raheem Mostert was a NOBODY. He had been a Practice Squad and preseason player ONLY for YEARS in the NFL. If Kyle Shanahan had not signed him, nobody ever would have heard of Raheem Mostert. He would have been like hundreds of other no-name players who pass through the NFL and never get the chance to make a name for themselves. He had done ZERO in the league before Shanahan signed him.
What does Shanahan do for him? Besides signing him? He turns Raheem into a DANG star! Raheem WHO? Nobody had ever heard of this guy. He was an unknown who went from NFL roster to NFL roster, never getting the chance to make an impact. But what does Shanahan do? He gives him his chance. He gives him that shot to make an impact. He designs an entire rushing attack that's imprinted with the name FOR YOU, RAHEEM.
How many players get that kind of opportunity in the NFL? Taint many!
So, how does Raheem repay Shanahan for showing faith in him? For giving him a chance? HE HOLDS OUT FOR MORE MONEY! That's what he does. Raheem Mostert lost me after that. I was never in his corner after that. He bit the hand that fed him. Then he compounded the issue by contradicting Shanahan on the severity of the knee injury. Could it have been miscommunication? Maybe. But who are we kidding? If I'm Raheem Mostert, I don't let it get that far. I don't contradict the ONE and ONLY coach who gave me a chance. And I certainly DO NOT hold out for more money.
Raheem blew it. He wrote his ticket out of town. He stamped it.
