I don't think it's a terrible pick. They need LBs to cover Kittle and that's what they got.

I am a bit skeptical. Collins ran a 4.67 after cutting weight for his pro day so he could run a faster 40. He isn't slow but he isn't fast enough. He may actually (accidently?) be a good pick for them as they need a little more beef to counter what looks to be an emerging power look for the 49ers. Should be enough to reduce the YPC from 5.2 to 5.1 My biggest head scratcher though was discussed above; they have pretty big needs in fundamental areas but chose to go DT and WR.

If you're scouting the 49ers the one thing that is clear is you do not need great corners against us… you need to be able to defend the middle of the field. Especially with Jimmy and his tendencies to keep everything inside the hashes.
