Would have been nice if they hired a gm then let him decide. But I guess if they waited that long they could have lost out on options

A professional from the moment he was hired, despite the the crap at the top of this organization. Good luck Chip.

No ego. Fire him and pay him for 3 more years. He can take his time

was against hiring Kelly but I have a lot of respect how he handled the media and the team. Good to see that folks, by in large, are not saying good riddance.

Excellent thread
Appreciate you Chip, you got the rawest of deals. Looking forward to seeing where you land and start kicking ass again

I have to agree. I don't like his firing, but I understand it. He was up sh*t creek with no paddle as soon as Baalke opted to keep $50 million in cap space rather than giving Kelly any options. But, you can't expect a new GM, with any credibility, to come in and not have a clean slate. Let's just hope York and Marathe don't f*** this up. This is the scary part, and we're going head on with 5 other franchises.
All this. Kelly conducted himself well. Truly a business decision here, nothing personal. Can't burden a new GM with a dead man walking HC.
This, this and this.
I was really hoping that Chip would innovate the NFL game, but DCs caught on and it really showed this year with Baalke's talent free offensive unit.

Chip was guilty by association. No need to set the new GM back with a Baalke hire. I do feel that Chip needed a few more years to get it going. So for the new GM it appears that'll Jed has learned his lesson, go handle your business.
Your record is not all on you, Thanks for going out like a true professional.

Same here. Not his fault there was no talent on roster. I think he can be a good OC in this league.

Yep, he handled the media very well, especially with the whole Kap protest bit. Pretty much defused any talk of division and other negative s**t that media latch onto right away and returned the focus to football.
I think he did a great job of keeping the locker room upbeat despite the record. That's really important imo, especially with such a young team. Some of those guys might have totally dropped their bundle but Chip found a way to keep them positive and keep them turning up for games.

I was a Chip fan when he was at Oregon and with the Eagles. He was a breath of fresh air and is a Coach. His only fault was hitching up with this franchise. What does this York family want? They had a winner in Harbaugh and fired him, so winning was not the issue. They had a good coach in Mooch and fired him. Chip was never given a chance, I'm sure he was assured in the hiring process that he would have time to get his kind of players and succeed. So they lied to him. Any football man of substance will laugh off coming here. What I foresee is that they will hire a GM with Zero experience and a head coach with Zero experience. Their press will say that these new hires will put us back on track toward Championships. What do we do as fans, these Yorks aren't going anywhere.

as fans, when Robinson ended th Rams game with an INT and was tackled near our sideline we really saw how much it meant to the team. Testament to Chip.

Probably on the line with funeral directors now getting estimates to have the 49er jogging suit removed from his father.
