Who should be Baalke's replacement, if he finally gets fired?

Combine his strong, existing relationship with Kelly, his offseason promotion, the GM interest he has drawn over the past few years and Jed's proclivity for hiring the closest guy down the hall and its more or less a done deal.

It makes too much sense, regardless if people think Gamble is a great or poor GM candidate. He might be the best realistic candidate for the 49ers too.

Guys like Paton, Caserio, Wolf, Ballard, they have plenty of options, they can afford to be picky and wait their turn. No one with real viable options that isnt already in the building is going to come work for Jed.

That thought is very depressing... and probably accurate.

I think Young would consider it. You can tell he doesnt like how this org is ran at all and really holds back in the interviews. He knows he would be able to do a better job

I mentioned this earlier today. I believe a couple years ago Steve Young briefly said something about how he was interested in joining forces with Brent Jones to own the team, and the only thing holding them back is that the team isn't up for sale.

I'm not sure how they would do as GM's or if they are even interested, but I would be much more excited about them running things than Baalke, that's for sure.
I hope Gamble will be an improvement because he will probably be our next GM. I hope he can land better picks and FA signings but this team is going nowhere with CK as head coach. I have been optimistic with Coach CK but after watching his Eagles and this season with us, our defense will always falter under his system.

All you can hope is that Gamble does a good job.
If Baalke gets fired I think Tom Gamble will be our GM. Right now he's our assistant GM so it's the logical choice. I think it would be better to have Nick Caserio or Eric deCosta would be better options but I don't think either of them would be coming here.
Kevin Jones said it best today, your telling me Marcus Rush is worse than what's out on the field? Baalke always does this. Same with Tiller. I mean you would think Rush couldn't make a highschool team.

This is our GM, hire someone who will take a risk once on a while
Recently heard on KNBR Louis Riddicks name mentioned as a possible name to watch for as an assistant to Gamble if/when he's hired. I believe he's worked with Philly in the past scouting and in some other roles but not sure if that was while Gamble was around. Anybody know much about his résumé?

Now if Gamble is indeed the next GM, Riddick would be really intriguing IMO to work with him. I've heard some good things about Riddick and he seems well connected. Also, the connection with the franchise...didn't the Niners draft him way back in the early '90s? Gamble/Riddick could bring some hope to the team.

Former NFL safety and scout
Now a TV personality
Also hates Howie Roseman
I think he overlapped a few months with Gamble before getting fired.
He may have been on the Redskins staff with Baalke.

If we are dreaming... I hope for a billionaire with a lot of leverage so we can get those calls and no calls like the Seahawks. I went there.

Decosta is not going anywhere, period. He's made that clear yet every year fans all across the NFL go "omg hire this guy." He seems perfectly content to wait for Ozzie to retire and then step up and assume the mantle in Baltimore. Every single offseason he turns down interviews from other teams.

The Ravens are the only NFL team that he has ever worked for in 18 years, there is no reason to expect that to change.

Tom Gamble will be our new GM. It is inevitable.
