Steve Young, Russell Wilson

Jake the Snake and Tarkenton were pretty successful too. Can probably lump Favre into that category as well. There have been unconventional QBs that improvise on plays that were winners.
John Elway and Roger Staubach also.

Now we're just listing QB's WHO CAN run. lol

Tom Brady has a 1,000 yards rushing put him in the list

Horrible comparisons. Even though Young ran a lot in college, he could definitely pass from the pocket. Russell Wilson ran more of a Pro Style at Wisconsin than just the read-option. I'm pretty sure at NC State he was more spread than just run around like Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson.

So can Jackson. People get lost in the whole running QB stuff. Jackson came out of an offense that included a lot of pro style concepts. Baltimore is wisely playing him to his strength but he has definitely shown the ability to sit back in the pocket and let it rip when needed.

He has all the tools needed to be a very good pocket passer, he just needs to continue to grind, keep improving his footwork, go hard in the offseason. Based on the work he put in throughout college, I have zero reason to believe he won't do so.
Looks good. He's winning. Year 2 is always tougher feat for the scrambling qb since teams get a full off-season to digest his habits.

LMAO. No.

But I'd put Joe Montana on the list. He wasn't the runner Steve Young was, but he could get some yards- especially before the injuries piled up.

I've already argued with you, I believe, for page after page about Russell Wilson and told you Mahomes can play in the NFL and has similar pocket presence and skills as RW. You didn't believe me.

Steve Young out of highschool was NOT a thrower, he was recruited as a running QB to run an option-run offense, but he ended up picking BYU. At the time BYU was coached by the great Lavall Edwards. He is a description of Lavell's offense "highly disruptive innovation that required the same sort of garage-style tinkering, ingenuity, and out-of-box thinking." Lavell was the Mike Leach of his day, people said it was a gimmick offense that would never work in the NFL. But even when the 6'0 4.55 40 time Young arrived at BYU, he was so bad throwing they wanted him to play Safety, not QB.

In fact, Steve Young would have NEVER started as a QB at BYU had the Offensive Coordinator not changed and Ted Tolner was the first one to say Young can play QB (by Young's own admission, he never knew how to throw a football until college).

Young, obviously, improved as a passer and shattered records in his gimmick offense.

Here are some quotes from Young's college scouting report:
"Makes very good decisions, but loves to take off and run. . . He was skittery…may be the best word to describe him. Need to settle him down to keep him from getting hurt in the NFL. He drifts at times, making it hard for pass protectors" I guarantee you there were lots of scouts that thought Young could NEVER be a pocket passer because he played "backyard" football in a "gimmick" offense.

I'm not saying Lamar is Steve Young. I'm saying unconventional, non-prototypical QBs have occurred before and they will happen again.

You got to be blind if you did not see the insane improvement Lamar is making as a passer from his first year in college to now.

Steve Young was very much an unconventional QB. Hard to find his highlights but here is a clip

And lets go back to the USFL. Remember that Steve Young despite the huge deal he got, his team wanted to him REPLACED. They drafted Vinny Testaverde #1 overall when Young was on the roster because the coaches didn't thing Young's scrambling style would ever work and they wanted a traditional pocket passer (Testaverde)

Again I'm not saying they can't play in the NFL. I'm saying it's unlikely you're gonna see a QB like a Michael Vick or Kyler Murray be a QB that guides a team to be a dynasty. Sure not much QB's can do it be it conventional or unconventional, but a pocket passer seems more likely due to defenses being more complex.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is throwing in Florida with a private quarterbacks coach, working with some of his receivers.
"A number of the receivers have gone down to work with him," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "He's got other receivers, other places — I don't know who they are — but he's been throwing regularly, and I think he'll ramp that up even more as he gets closer."

...
He had a great rookie year... D coordinators don't have a book on him yet, but that all changes next season... I don't think he can make all the throws so the field will start to narrow for him once he gets patterned... teams will learn how to contain him in the pocket and minimize his effects as a scrambler and downfield rusher...
All these years and a new coaching staff later and the Packers still can't stop a QB from running wild on them.

Jaire should have intercepted the pass prior. Words can't express my disappointment.
So..........the option.
Yea this s**t gonna be pretty interesting. I think he's gonna be fine
I think he has a chance to be the best running QB in NFL history... and yet he still might suck.
