I'm not quite there yet. The difference between Prescott junior and senior year was kind of ridiculous but Jackson is definitely not the next Pryor(No OSU hate). He is looking like a legit NFL QB prospect this year and the 1st or 2nd best prospect in a kinda meh QB class.

lol I complained about Pryor's progression reading when he was in school, no worries. It's funny being the pessimist among optimist Buckeye fans, while amongst Niner fans I'm the opposite
I like Jackson...but to even survive in the NFL, he'll have to be a lot more of a pocket passer than a runner like he is now at Louisville. Arguably, the most successful running QB so far has been Kaepernick, and he can't even get a job in the NFL. Kap is a bigger player than Jackson...and considerably more able to absorb the hits. For Shanahan's offense, Rosen would be a better fit, IMHO.

Kaepernick as a passer in college was never at the level that Jackson is now.

I savaged Jackson a year ago because too often he would take off and run at the first sign of trouble. He showed little pocket presence. This year I see a guy that is far more methodical, more patient and a QB with the confidence to make some real "big boy" type throws. He still runs a lot but he is showing another dimension as a passer, to where he doesn't have to run to make an impact.

My biggest concerns about Rosen are concerns about his maturity, how coachable he is and his overall work ethic.

For a guy who came out with a ton of hype, he hasn't improved a whole lot as a passer. Jackson clearly has and I think that progression is a huge. If a guy is busting his ass in college, it is more likely than not that he will continue that in the NFL as we've seen with Dak Prescott.

On the other hand guys with tremendous natural talent and instincts who simply rest on
their laurels tend to get knocked down on their ass in the NFL.

To me it's the hero ball he loves to play, the way he stares down his intended targets and the dumb inopportune INT's he throws. He's also as mobile as Hoyer, and a known dick ala Cutler.

He continues to improve, QBs get over drafted, more teams than not need QBs for different reasons and it only takes one team.
This guy does really silly stuff in the open field.

As much as his passing has improved, he's still an unbelievable threat as a runner.

Really encouraged by the difference in Lamar Jackson's release this year. Definitely put in work to speed up his motion and it shows.

I think that if he stays in school he could really solidify himself as the top QB next year.

I agree but I selfishly hope he comes out because if he doesn't....and Darnold stays in school too, this QB class is going to be pretty at the very top. You'll have Rosen.....and then someone who has no business going in the Top 15 picks will likely get pulled up due to the lack of available QB talent. I could deal with the 49ers taking either Rosen or Jackson. If they got neither and didn't sign Cousins, then I'd be worried.

I really hope they have their guy going into next year. Cousins, Garoppolo, Jackson, Rosen...I'll trust Shanahan to make the right call.

I also want Jackson to come out to give them more options. He's going to be a lot of fun to watch. If he continues to improve he could do some real damage.

Jackson or Rosen, if they have to draft a QB, give me one of those two and I think Shanahan can make it work, especially with an upgraded OL.

I'm starting to like Jackson more and more over Rosen.

Never thought I'd see you saying you'd be ok drafting Jackson at QB. Maybe I'm still having ptsd from Kap but I just don't trust him as an NFL QB especially in this offense. I think he's a guy who could have great success on a talented team but not sure he can be a guy you can count on to play consistent good football and elevate the play of everyone around him for 10+ years.

I think Jackson has shown himself to be a much better passer than Kaepernick ever did in college. I see a lot of complaints about the lack of talent Allen and Rosen have around them but Jackson is the same boat, still carrying his team game after game.

He looked like a gimmick a year ago but all you have to do is go and watch a few of his games this season to see a quarterback who is much improved as a passer, a guy carrying an otherwise bad team.

Also different from Kaepernick is a much more natural delivery and throwing motion, a compact, quick release. His footwork is still inconsistent but his improvement this season seems to indicate the work ethic and self-awareness to continue becoming a better passer.
