I have seen many posters at many sites over the years "and this one being no exception" of them saying that LA is not a football town which could not be any further from the truth. LA is not a Raiders or Chargers football town,but it is a Rams football town.Major difference there. Here are the facts i came across that dispell the myth that LA is not a football town ANOTHER post here everyone has blatantly ignored DESPITE the dozens of times i have posted it here on this thread. The reason the chargers left LA for san diego after playing there their first year in the old AFL was because they could not compete with the Rams for fan support out there. their first year there in 1960 and you can look this up for yourselves,the largest crowds they drew there were just 21,000 around with their lowest being as bad as 9,000.lol. this DESPITE going 10-5 that year and making it to the divisional championship game against the Oilers. The Rams on the other hand that same year though? their largest crowd that year was over 75,000 with the lowest being around 53,000. this DESPITE the fact they only had a losing record of 4-7-1. Plus as I also have said here MANY times on this thread. The Raiders when they were in LA,the only fans that embraced them were the thugs. Dan Dierdorf who was a broadcaster for monday night football games from 1987 to 1994 said a couple months ago the entire time he was a broadcaster,all the raider games they did were always on the road because they did not draw well for home games. The Rams on the other hand,they were on monday night football MANY times in the 1970's and 1980's. The Raiders in their year they won a superbowl out there,the next year for their home opener,they only drew a crowd of about 45,000 or so. MEANWHILE,the Rams in their home opener that same year,they drew a crowd over 65,000 for their home opener which was impressive since they were playing in a baseball stadium which was a dump. the OAKLAND Raiders might have won a superbowl out there in LA but nobody in LA cared. LA is a football town when were talking about the RAMS its just not a Chargers or Raiders football town.major difference there. The Rams the majority of the time they were there in fact,were always in the top five in league attendance. the bigger the lie,the more people believe it.

lulz. What does this discussion have to do with hating the rams? I thought it was about LA being the mecca sports place you proclaim. It has nothing to do with the Rams. If it were up to me the Rams would be in LA. I am from CA, many of my friends are from LA, and I am 99% more likely to visit LA than the s**thole that is St. Louis. So why would I want it to stay in STL?

This thread was about LA being a sport town. You need to learn to stay on topic. Also, someone who disagrees with your opinion (which has happened a lot in here), is doing the same thing as you...stating their opinion. You are taking your opinion, and the opinion of an announcer as fact. Doesn't work that way.

I am not sure what your agenda is? Are you trying to justify LA as a sports town, or trying convince people the Rams need to be in LA? Are you a Rams fan invested in this? I think so.

Sorry man. I can't say I see this Rams-contingent that you say is still strong here. If anything, Rans fans are pretty rare.

I suggest you watch the Rams/Chargers game played in san diego this past year. the first score came when Rivers threw an interception ran back for a touchdown by the Rams and when the cameras focused in on the crowd i was amazed and proud of the turnout from LA Ram fans there.over half the crowd in that sold out game were LA Ram fans jumping up and down cheering for the team. chargers stadium seats around 69,000 and from looking at all the fans in the stadium cheering,i would say about 40,000 or so were Ram fans and they were not Ram fans from st louis either.

matter of fact a person from st louis who came to that game cause he has relatives out in san diego,wrote a blogger that it was a refreshing change going to a Rams game where it felt like a home game instead of a road game as all games in st louis feel like.

The reason you see more Raider fans out there in LA than you do Ram fans is because the Raiders at least stayed in the same state when they moved out of LA,they did not relocate clear across the country.when the cardinals came to dodge stadium a few weeks ago,there were thousands in the crowd that were wearing Rams jerseys.

you should go to disneyland sometime also,you see more and more rams jerseys there all the time now the last couple years with more and more people convinced they are coming back and that is because they are aware that mayor Butts of Inglewood has met with Kroneke many times this past season and kroneke has told him he wants to be in LA.

Also every poll the LA TIMES has done,in all the polls they did,the Rams always came in first each time when asked what team they would like to have back the most between the Rams,Chargers,and Raiders and an ESPN poll as well showed everyone around the country voted Rams.

The LA times polls had the Rams in the lead with 65% of the votes,Raiders second with 30% of the votes,and Chargers dead last with a mere 5% votes.

I'm gonna just write this again.

I live there. I'm at sports bars every Sunday. There is no Rams contingent that shows up to watch their team.

Oh and I go to Disneand once a year... not many football jerseys, let alone Rams ones.

I have no dog in this particular race, but I do recall reading some years ago, during a previous LA fuff, which was when teams were talking about leaving, a post from a local.

He said that, half way through a home game (don't recall if it was Rams or Raiders) with the score close and everything to play for, someone would stand up and announce in a loud voice:

"Dudes! Surfs up!!!!!!!"

And the stadium would empty

Was I arguing that there is a huge large massive amount of fans in LA watching games in bars? I don't think I was. But, I will say this: IF you go to LA to watch the games in bars w all other fans, you get huge respect as a Rams fan. Anyone from LA gives immediate respect. you nailed it. matter of fact I guarantee you once the Rams come back to LA next year,half those packer,raider,and cowboy fans will embrace the Rams and be season ticket holders at those games.The way I know this is because I cant tell you how many people out here in LA became Charger fans and switched to them and started rooted for them when the Rams left.

I know many people here in LA who after the Rams left,they became either Charger fans ,Raider fans,49er fans,Cowboy fans,or Packer fans.those numbers will drop drastically when the Rams come back.

once a year isnt going to tell you anything. as i said,watch the chargers/rams game played in san diego this year.you will see with your own eyes half the stadium was full of LA RAM fans jumping up and down cheering when the first score came after darrel stuckey of the chargers intercepted phillip rivers and ran it in for a touchdown.

pretty damn impressive for fan support i would say for a a game not even played in LA.

I see there have been a few that have come on here that understand that and know the truth that contrary to the myth that got started by georgia frontiere,that LA is indeed a football town such as rice to young and a few others.they are smart,they know its a myth unlike so many others that have posted here.

Not many here are like him and understand this though obviously.yes i have taken everyone to school on it and many here are obviously ram haters who obviously dont want to look at the facts in the op that debunks the FOOLISHNESS many here have stated that it is not a football town.

I see some people here hate the rams so much they dont want to look at the facts.reminds me of the LA raider fans in LA who ramble on with rants that LA embraced the raiders ignoring the facts that their home games were never broadcast on monday night games because the crowd support was so horrible so they had all their games on the road where with the rams,they had MANY home games in the LA coliseum in the 70's yet somehow they have the logic the raiders were more popular there.comedy gold.

like those LA Raider fans in LA that want them back,many here are so blinded by their hate for the rams,they refuse to read the OP only seeing what they WANT to see just like them.
