I'm encouraged by the photo of AA looking smaller. Dude still needs to shed another 20 pounds, IMO. I want him to get down to like 265. I never liked him as a 3-4 DE anyway (I didn't like him at all, but there was always the thought that maybe his foot injury in college made him look worse, and he'd eventually get better).

Hes probably 275 right now. He's got time to add mass and lean cut right at the same time.

We have no idea what he will play like at 270. He does have exceptional length which certainly won't hurt him. It could be another Carradine situation but in reverse. We'll just have to wait and see but if he can play well on base downs then that is all the 49ers really need. They have Dumervil and Lynch to get after the QB, they need Armstead to hold up against the run.
Interesting take.
So many interesting scenarios - can't wait for pre-season.

I, for one, always prefer athletes cut weight over gaining weight. Gaining weight mostly just makes you more bulky & less coordinated. It also makes you more injury-prone because your muscles get bigger, but everything else doesn't.
I'd take a dude who cut down from 280 to 265 over a dude who bulked up from 250 any day of the week.

If he wasn't drafted that high he would be gone already. Buckner is a player. This guy is not.

He's been hampered with a shoulder injury. Judge him from this point on, I think he'll surprise.

The shoulder injury is included in my judgement. IIRC i read he's been dealing with it since coming out of college.
I don't think it was 100% responsible for his crap play and even so, I don't have faith it will magically heal 100% and he becomes a stud all of a sudden. That sounds unlikely to me.
Maybe he balls out, who knows. But I'm guessing nope.

I thought it was a foot injury in college. Or both?

Had an ankle injury, too (broken wrist as sophomore too).
I could've sworn that he claimed he played with that ankle injury the rest of the year (of course, that could've been BS to just make himself look better).

I stand corrected, I guess it wasn't just the shoulder.

You're both right.. Shoulder was something lingering since getting out of high school.
