sounds like we will save $18M if we post him as a June first cut but accrue $10M in dead cap. So sounds like an increase $8M salary cap space this year.

he has quite a few "void years" here so I wonder if this means we will still pay him a few mil a year for the next couple seasons or if that will be part of the accelerated desd cap cost. Where is AB when I need him.

He sucks now so makes sense. I'm liking that the FO is more cutthroat now. Couldn't see them having the balls to make this move not too long ago. No time for being friends. Gotta be brutal in this business

Yeah they save $18M with a post June cut. I'm assuming that's what they do.

that's cash they know they have coming to them and can be used for signing our draft picks/money going into the season. So they have cash allocated for that now instead of showing to free up more cash for that and signing guys.

im expecting them to restructure a couple more contracts. Maybe Fred and extend Ward? That would create like $20M in cap space and another $10M if they extend BA.

The $17M is what they owe him in actual dollars, I believe. Part of the his cap hit is $28M is because they've restructured his contract a couple times, which has pumped up his cap hit.

Hate to see him go, but the writing was on the wall with him coming off his injury and having such a huge cap hit.

I think people are getting confused because they don't know that you don't have to wait until June to designate a post June cut. We can cut him tomorrow and get that post June cut savings. Not saying it's any of you three confused with this.

Yup. Not just coming off the injury, he's consistently missed games since he's been here. How many seasons did he play every game?

You can cut him now and use the post June 1st designation. He is a free agent now but will still account towards the cap until June 1st. After that they will save 18m, which can be used to pay rookies, contract extensions, free agents, or roll over into next year. But this will come with more dead cap next year

Essentially no savings now but savings in June and he can sign anywhere.

I wouldn't say consistently since he played 5 full season in his 1st 7 season including 4 straight without missing a game between 2018-21. plantar fasciitis really messed people's reception about this guy in 22-23 season.

Correct, he will be cut and able to sign with whomever now. SF will not compensation for that (comp pick). SF can't touch that extra cap space until after June 1st. IMO that money will be used for the season and sign our draft picks. So instead of being forced to have to create space for that elsewhere, they've already done it. I expect either a restructure or a couple players to take a pay cut or get the boot as well.
