Hopefully DJ jones whether he's the main one or part of rotation.
Hargrave moves over, DJ Jones slots in

Post June cut for AA which we'll use to sign our rookie class and perhaps a late pre-season veteran who fills a need or adds depth.

Not sure how the void years work in this situation, AA had a few of them.

They're still going to need more help at DT. I'm expecting one to be the pick in the 1st or 2nd round.
That he turned down a "significant" pay cut, but the report is they were close on a new deal - makes me wonder how low AA was willing to go.

Definitely going to need more than just Jones for AA, I was more referring to what we'll use AA's money for rather than filling the DL. That veteran I mentioned could be any position.

Even before AA news broke I thought we'd take DL in the first because - well, that's just what we do. This pretty much puts our first round pick into "I'll be surprised if it's anything else" category which is very unfortunate for the OL - although I'd love to be surprised.

I'm glad we didn't extend AA, I feel like his lower leg injuries are going to be an ongoing thing. Hopefully we can find some value in FA.

Also obviously coming from the agent. Trying to assess the market right before the bell. I think he goes to Washington.
Finally got rid of this terrible contract.

Why Washington? They've got two great DT's already. My guess is the Jets or Texans because of the coaching ties.

Sounds to me like a good oppurtunity to get bigger, stronger and preferably younger+cheaper across the DL, especially the depth.

A bargain solution to AA being gone could be re-signing Kinlaw and signing Hassan Ridgeway. They're more rotational players, but they could still work. Agree, Lynch is more apt to take a top DL early in the draft now. Armstead's showing the wear & tear...which is understandable, but doesn't help the team like he used to.
Go get paid Arik! Love you man!

Years back I wanted us to keep Buckner and let Arik go... seemed like the logical thing to do... but since, Arik as played at a high level when he's been on the field.

Can't wait to see where he ends up.

They are and it makes me sad but drafting DL early is what we do I was hoping for an elite IOL that can eventually take over at center. We could still get a good player at 63 but it's a domino effect. I commend them got moving on, but hoping we can improve our 3rd and 4th round drafting and find a replacement there.
Kinda sad. The drafting of Arik started a three year trend of drafting defensive linemen in the first round. First came Arik in 2015. Buckner was next in 2016. Then came Solomon Thomas in 2017. All of them are still in the league and still playing. But it appears none of them will play for the 49ers next season.

This is a Bill Walsh type of move. Let a player go a year or two before his production begins to decline. He did this time and again with a number of popular players.
