Eric Reid is just 23 years old, he's had a few numbs in the road but people forget how young he is anyhow hard it is to develop as a safety. I am hoping he is here for 10 more years. He will only get smarter an more experienced. He is a great leader, great in the community an just the type of niner we want around here. If he doesn't get a 2nd contract like most Niners don't, I will be real dissapointed

The problem with Reid is that he's suffered multiple concussions at an early stage of his career.

Those concussions have caused him
to play timid. If he's playing timid he becomes a liability.

They are about equal in coverage but Goldson is a BEAST! Reid doesn't compare to him at all!

This is like comparing a man to a teenager, the level of physicality that Goldson and Whitner brought is priceless. The flags were not a problem to me, as long as everyone on the other teams offense was affraid of our Safeties. Right now no one is afraid of Reid's coverage or hitting ability.

Eric Reid has had all of 3 concussions ever, zero in college. One concussion is questionable he had. He changed his style of play a bit but he is still learning the nuances of the game. I loved DG but I'd take Reid everyday all day over him

meh..well Reid's play has dramatically dropped and I wonder if it's his concussions, but I have seen this year his pass coverage skills completely fall off. The Atlanta game was really bad. Just watch the Jones play right before the end of the first half. This has been typical of Reid this year: he gets caught flat footed too much. it's like he is a few seconds off mentally.

Goldson was fun to watch but a mess as a coverage back. his late hits were becoming annoying towards the end there for him, but look at him now? done.

Reid had the best upside but no longer is that the case

Plus his tackling this year (i believe this is due to the head shots) has become more of an arm tackling approach. won't tackle anyone like that (Packers & Steelers games really stick out)

Reid has been getting worse each year. Kind of strange for a young player where his rookie year was his best.

Both average at best. I think Goldson is little better than Reid.

Don't see this at all. DG launched himself at receivers and when he missed? No tackle. Reid has much better form and seldom misses a tackle.

It was obvious the refs were making examples of DG and Whitmer...which really hurt the team at inopportune times.

Reid is not a better hitter or tackler than Goldson! In fact he does nothing in regards to contact remotely at the same level of Goldson. Coverage skills may be a little better but the results aren't there. We went to 3 NFCCG's and a super bowl due that physical Ronnie Lott brand of football, not this technique/finesse Deon Sander's brand of football and that is the fundamental difference when you compare Reid to Goldson.
