I don't mind Mangini coming back. He knows the D and did ok as DC last year with a young squad.

I'm ok with Chip Kelly to fix this crappy offense but I think we can find a better coach then Mangini.

We were gashed repeatedly all season long.

387.4 YPG!

I agree, cannot see why anyone would want him back. The defense was soft and slow...ALWAYS!!

Missed tackles everywhere.

We did have 53 sacks which was second best in the NFL.

In fairness cc, a lot of us did not call for a clean house. It's always good to have some continuity unless the team totally turned on the coaches. I happen to think Mangini's defense would complement Kelly very nicely. If they retain Rathman, I'm good. Tarver? Getting rid of everyone seems like an unnecessary ove reaction.
Change title lol

I'd love to get Pettine but he's an East coast guy who has always coached in the EST. In addition, money doesn't mean crap for him because the Browns owe $3.5 mil a year for the next 2 years so unless someone is going to offer him $4 mil a year to be a DC, more than several head coaches are making, he would basically be working for free.

not how it would be working for free, He wan't to continue coaching he needs to get a DC job or lower
Mangini needs to improve from last year no doubt. But he also made the youngest defense in the NFL into the best defense at home in the NFL. There's upside.

Yeah, but what was the average age of our D last year...23? 24? Its not like Mangini had a bunch of vets.

His bottomline would be the same. Either the Browns pay him $3.5 mil next year or he takes a coordinating job at $2 mil a year and the Browns pay him $1.5 million a year. Eitherway the ending total salary is the same since he had an offset.

Most NFL head coaches have 'offset' language in their contracts that states if the coach is fired and he takes another job in the NFL as a head coach or assistant, the former team can recoup that portion of his new contract. For example, if a head coach is fired and the club owes him one year at $5 million but the coach gets a coordinator position at $1 million then the old club only owes him $4 million.

I kept seeing bowman raising his arms up towards the sideline every time they gave up a play. Was he doing that towards Mangini?

We did? I didn't know that. It felt like we had 3 all year. Lol
Did everyone forget how TERRIBLE we left WRs open ALL SEASON LONG? It wasn't just at the start of the season but throughout the whole season. We had LBs covering WRs. We had breakdown in coverages all over the place. His defense scheme is terrible.
