we need to run the same type of run plays for hyde that we do for gore. they switch it up entirely too much. give him a power running play too and watch him get those blocks and get those yards. there wasn't a play yesterday where he got great blocking at all, meanwhile when we did our strong running game you saw the lanes that gore had.
i think the fact that he's versatile is hurting him because the coaches put him in on certain packages and formations that they don't think suit frank.
the best block on a play hyde was in yesterday is actually the block he made for kap
lol
if he could block for himself and carry the ball then we might be onto something

I do find it encouraging they have left him in on 3rd down passing situations. Shows the coaching staff trusts him which is HUGE with this staff. Unless they're forced to, they don't usually willingly let rooks get in on crucial downs.

agreed, sort of. Im not totally convinced that hyde can run ALL the plays that gore can right now but the niners need start trying so as to prevent a couple of things.
1) the D from keying in on tendencies from the O
2) wear and tare on gore
Youre definitely right on many of his plays the blocking hasn't been there but I can say imo the patience hasn't been there on his part on many plays as well.
Imho haven't seen this versatility yet, only because he's a rookie, his in between the tackle running is a work in progress. I do have confidence that rathman will get every once of talent out of him though.
Damn good blocking for a rookie

We saw in game 1 he hits the hole. He hits it fast. It would only make sense to either run option plays like the one he scored on or trap plays and wham plays the ones where gore gets the immediate hole and turns it up field.
slow developing plays stringing it out isn't going to be good for him right now until he learns the patience necessary
however until that time there's no reason he shouldn't be in there to pound the rock. he's not a change of pace back like in the past, he's a big bruising back who delivers punishment

Gore is still the best back on the roster, but this is the best tandem we have had since Kendall Hunter was healthy in 2011. If Roman can figure out how to build on this, and a short passing game, then we might be in great shape down the stretch. This team is going through growing pains in a lot of spots right now, and they should be 4-0 against a few really solid teams. I am feeling very optimistic to the close of the season.

I think that his natural talent PLUS the fact that he's learned some from Gore had made him a better RB already... there are times tho that I think he tries to run like Frank, and that's not his style.. he's always been a slasher, and I also believe that he'll be an even better RB if we can design a play similar to Terrell Davis and Edgerin James back in the days.. Those "Stretch Cut Back" plays would be perfect for his speed and power...

I think Hyde will only get better.
There is nothing more effective than a two back tandem.

He's very similar to gore. He'll be fine here. Marvin has it right, he just needs to develop the kind of vision Frank has.
