Michael Crabtree Thread

Crabtree would be a very good fit in Andy Reid's offense. They run a lot of the kinds of plays in which Crabtree could excel. The fact he and Smith have worked together is almost incidental although Smith's ability to read defenses and make those accurate short-to-midrange throws adds more credence to the idea of uniting them.

With the emergence of Albert Wilson toward the end of last season as a deep threat, plus Bowe, Crabtree and Kelce, could quickly turn that into a very high-powered offense.

I would prefer he stay in SF, however, I just don't see a scenario in which that would work.

I am also disappointed in his performance to this point, however, this team needs more than just one more receiver. We have no speed, Boldin is at the very tail end of a great career and almost certainly gone in another year, Johnson and Kaepernick just don't seem to be able to make a connection and Patton and Ellington should be competing for the #4 job on a good passing team. To me that means that a solid possession receiver, which is how I see Crabtree, is a definite need, particularly if Old Man Time catches up with Boldin. Of course it all comes down to money and with Johnson and Boldin at $6MILLION I see very little left for Crabtree unless they can get Johnson to restructure.

Is there a category where we don't offer him a contract, he tests FA, and realizes after we have drafted a top WR that his best bet is to stay in SF so that we can low ball him and keep him? lol

Agree. Crab is a good player, but his skills are redundant with the current WR core. We have enough possession types. Boldin is superior in that regard, and SJ can do many of the same things Crab can do.

This team needs speed. Baalke admitted as much in his combine presser. We're obviously looking for guys who can run and get down field.

At least we won't have to see another season end on a incomplete pass to crabs.

If i were Balke and company I would resign Crabtree and let Boldin walk. Same style player but one is younger and likely to be at full health over a year removed from the achilles injury. Doesnt really make sense to me why you would pay Boldin $6mil when he will be gone shortly. Crabtree is likely not going to break the bank. Keep Crab, make Johnson restructure and move fwd drafting a beast receiver in the first round. Receiving core would be all set. Instead we will wind up losing Crab and Boldin in back to back seasons and in a really bad spot in 2016.

That's a good idea in theory but I think we'd take a cap hit if we released or traded Boldin. Also, releasing or trading Boldin would make the FO look even worse than they already do.
