Every off season lately it's always the same dynamic. Niner fans clamor for the big free agent signing. Maybe it's time to get a clue - that's not the way Baalke works.
It also kinda doesnt help that we are only 1million under the cap
I still haven't forgotten when he held out the first 4 games of his rookie season because he "deserved more money". He won't be missed.

I would like to see us target someone like Torrey Smith in FA. He may be too pricey, and I don't really see him leaving Baltimore, but I'm not sure what other WRs are available; I'd just like a burner to stretch the D a la Moss in 2012.

I doubt we go after any FA receivers other than Brandon Lloyd minimum type deals. Already have $6mil. + tied up in both Boldin and Johnson. Can't be paying a #3 WR $6mil+.

I think Nate and J. smith was a must. The team sucked and fan moral was an all time low. We had enough cap space for two teams that year and needed to bring the team up to respectability, fast. It's not a way to run a team long term, but we just tried to get out of the cellar.

I agree.

The 49ers can't afford him nor do they need another WR if they truly want to rely on power running as their primary game. While I don't agree with that philosophy I do understand that is likely where we are stuck until/unless Kaepernick learns to be a solid passer.

What that means for Crabtree is that he would be silly to even listen to an offer. His game is not wanted here nor does it fit in the projected offense; a fact he almost certainly recognizes. Hence his removing "49er" from his Twitter account.

I wish him well. He didn't complain about being turned into a downfield blocker instead of being an actual pass receiver under Harbaugh/Kaepernick. He deserved to get paid somewhere he can use his skills.

Dallas probably can't afford him but that offense would be scary with him and Dez together, along with Murray.

yea and we're past that point now. i wish we could keep crab. it seems like we're finally going to have an offense that is going to feature his skill set. precision and route running instead of an offense that demanded chunk yard long routes and speed with receivers who weren't capable of that on the field.

That's the standard Web Zone model. I still remember when people were complaining about the fact that Fangio had low-ranking defenses that didn't get any better in his previous NFL DC position.

Correct.

I'd be stunned if they dropped a significant amount of money on any player not currently on the roster.

i am not a fan of his. i could get past his holding out as a rookie and his injuries but i just think his achillies tear affected him in a very negative way, he seems to be slow and i am sorry but i just can not see him as a clutch wide out in big games, and i think he drops to many passes

they never do and we have been pretty successful in that mode. besides we have to free up some money before we talk about signing anyone

If the Seahawks & Pats can make it to the SB without a #1 WR, then we don't need one. We do need some speed at WR however, something to offset Boldin.
