So those saying owners approved their own deal. You are saying they negotiated for weeks and then just made up their own deal and voted yes on it.The fact is is the players are trying to make a last ditch power move to get more by asking for changes to the negotiated deal. They are being greedy.

Actually, there are reports that the owners stuck new stuff in their proposal that the players had never even seen before. You really think they should just blindly sign the deal, including things they've never had a chance to review?

I don't buy they negotiated for weeks and then the owners just through stuff in there and said there you go.

You don't feel that the billionaire owners are capable of pulling a fast one over the players to gain some more money? That's a huge leap of faith you have in a group of rich guys looking to get richer.

goodell said in the press conference they added the supplemental revenue sharing thing..so they probably did
Adam Schefter just compared this to a car sale, saying that this most recent disagreement is like disagreeing over floor mats on a luxury car...basically, shouldnt be a big deal. Obviously players and owners are crybabies, but I still believe 100% we have football.

Part of the reason the players are teetering on signing a deal is because they say need more time to re-certify as a union and that it "doesn't happen over night like the owners time line suggests." why did they de-certify in the first place then? all it managed to do was hold up a deal getting done.

They de-certified so they can file a CLASS ACTION lawsuit (which they did).

- 98

what did the lawsuit get them though? they filed and lost when the 8th circuit took over. it seems like de-certifying was just going through the legal motions and was pointless in the grand scheme of things.

In order to file for a class action lawsuit, they cannot be in a union because unions have different set of laws. At this point, the NFL, from what I read, want the NFLPA to be a union once more so they can avoid a similar action taken by the players in the years to come.

The NFLPA, at this point, does not concede to re-certifying as a union yet. They want to read the proposals and counter them with their own. If the become a union once more, which in time they will, they will be held to a different sets of rules that they have to abide by. At this point, they have more leeway as non-unionized entity.

- 98

Makes sense. By law management can't coerce it's employee's to form a union and I guess the players feel that's what they're trying to do. Just sucks its one of the many obstacles left to deal with before a new CBA can be agreed to.

CORRECTION: If the NFLPA stayed as a union, it would have taken 90 days to file for a class action lawsuit, thus the reason they de-certified at an earlier time so they can file sooner.

THEY HAVE NOT NEGOTIATED WITH THE PLAYERS, get that straight!!!!!

Everyone knows this was a power move by the NFL, not the NFLPA. The players are not trying to make any "last ditch power move" since they have not seen the offer. They are going thru the offer and making counter offer after. THAT IS HOW NEGOTIATIONS WORK.

- 98

So what did they do the last few weeks. Was that not negotiating
It isn't like the owners just made up a completely new deal. They drafted this thing together. If they didn't then they have lied to us for weeks.

They HAVE negotiated with the players except for this issue: the supplemental revenue sharing plan, which apparently wasn't an issue of interest for the NFLPA. No one sits through months of mediation/negotiations without making any kind of progress. May as well burn money.
SOOOOOOO al davis not approving makes him a owner on the players side. who would of thought.

You dont think its possible that we have been lied to? Again this is the Owners we are talking about. They put extras in it, not just the revenue, but health procedures.

Negotiations work between two parties or more. The fact that the NFL owners worked among themselves to ratify THEIR OWN proposal was a good thing. BUT no where did it state that they NEGOTIATED WITH THE NFLPA.

Those are the two parties that need to hammer out the deal, not just one side.

I can say the same for you. How can you be so quick to believe everything the players say. You seem to forget NFL would have never even agreed to do end the lockout if it wasn't for siting down for 2 months with the players. Who by the way made them think they had a deal.

NFLPA* fears lawsuit from Vincent Jackson
Posted by Mike Florio on July 21, 2011, 9:16 PM EDT

Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson is represented by a couple of the hardest charging agents in the business. Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod have engineered, for example, the recent holdouts of Darrelle Revis and Roddy White. Also, they threatened litigation on Jackson’s behalf last year against the San Diego Union-Tribune based on the suggestion by Kevin Acee that Jackson was broke.

There’s talk in league circles that the NFLPA* fears they’ll be the next target of the Schwartz and Feinsod hardball tactics. Specifically, we’re told the NFLPA* is concerned it will be sued if Jackson’s role in the Brady antitrust lawsuit is settled without Jackson receiving $10 million.

That’s why the NFLPA* keeps pushing the issue — and that’s why it continues to be a roadblock in a process that now has plenty of them.

Only one man can put this issue to rest. And that’s Vincent Jackson. If he truly wants nothing (as he supposedly said on an unverified Twitter page earlier this week), he needs to call a press conference and say so. Otherwise, we’ll assume he wants $10 million.

Hopefully, I won’t be sued for expressing that opinion.

No, the Raiders just don't agree with the language of the deal and are even against portion of what was proposed by the league. No where did it state that they were on the players side.

I saw that. Trey Wingo countered the analogy with his own saying the owners sending over a proposal the players hadn't seen is like a car dealership bringing out a pre-ordered car to the buyer that wasn't on the original deal (National Lampoon's reference.)
