Just my opinion

I couldn't agree more. I don't get the love on this board for him.

Did you check his record in Philly as OC with what he was working with or Oakland ? In Tampa his biggest mistake was not pushing for or drafting a franchise QB. Wherever he lands if there is no franchise QB I'd bet he'd be looking to nab one and not make that mistake twice.

WOW you want to go break down to OC stats now to find more positives, ok we can but I could find several OC's with better stats.... Just to let you open that can of worms

No that wasn't what I was getting at, but in Philly he proved what he did in Oakland and to an extent in Tampa, that he has theability to create an offense that can move the chains, score points, and be successful without a franchise QB. His one mistake has always been his not getting a franchise QB in Tampa. I'd be willing to bet he has learned from that mistake.

He's also hungry, having been out of coaching for awhile, but is still young enough to breathe some life into our moribund (word-of-the-day) team. He's an effective communicator, another thing we haven't had on our sidelines since Mariucci. You're so against him...which is your perogative, but who would you hire instead, and why?

What QB has Gruden ever developed to say that he "gets" QBs. Or does that mean he acquires them, which would be more apt.

Who could he have acquired and developed in Tampa? The only QB worth drafting in their spot while Gruden was coach was Aaron Rodgers but they had the 5th pick that year. 24 other teams passed on him too. They were never in a position to draft a franchise QB, or a decent QB at that. Unless you wanna dig into the later rounds and play the guessing game but then you gotta blame everybody for passing on Montana and Brady.

Rich Gannon. Took a journeyman and turned him into a Pro Bowler.

Mike Holmgren seems to agree that Gruden knows QB's :

Quote:
"Jon is like my son," Holmgren said of Gruden. "I did not see the show, but I plan to phone him and talk to him about it. There isn't a better, smarter young man than Jon Gruden and he understands the position. I would trust his judgment on all of that."

Source
John Gruden is more than qualified to be head coach of the 49ers he has a superbowl with brad smith at qb who else could turn brad smith in superbowl winnig qb.Tampa Bay had great defense he inheirited from tony dungy but their offense under tony dungy was a joke. John gruden installed west coast offense there and went to superbowl and won it almost immediately. I also remember John gruden winning more games as a raiders headcoach than any one except John Madden without bullsh** tuck rule raiders would have made superbowl that year and i remember raiders in superbowl with a qb developed by John Gruden rich gannon who was at best a journey man type qb before he came to oakland. The bottom line he is off the bill walsh coaching tree he was taught the west coast offense by mike holmgren who won superbowls with packers and went to one with seahawks. John Gruden is the best coach available and the 49ers would be lucky to have him. I dont want someone unproven with no superbowl rings we need a championship caliber coach to bring us back to the superbowl and bring 6th lombardi trophy back to San Francisco

I like your swagger, sir.
Hiring a "high profile" guy like Gruden makes sense from the York's perspective as they pursue a new stadium deal. That'll get more fans excited about the Niners again and increase season ticket sales, which is what we (York's) need.

If we had the choice between Gruden or Singletary it's a no brainer and not too mention his knowledge of the WCO which our current OC is familiar with.

And if you're a Free Agent QB at the end of the season wouldn't you want to come play for Gruden? Answer is a BIG YES!!

For John Gruden we have to very attractive for the very fact we don't have a GM and he would want full control.

Look in TB he was the GM and HC.... He could have made any move he wanted.. He ran them.... He can blame no one but himself
Ok...you're against Gruden...but neither of you have said who Jed should hire and why? It's one thing to disagree...it's yet another to come up with a better solution.

Not entirely true since the Owners spent the least amount of money of any on their football team in the NFL during his tenure there.

Right because this is Madden and acquiring a franchise QB is as simple as giving up a 1st-round pick and 3 scrubs.
Good coach, bad GM.

Actually in Tampa Rich McKay and Bruce Allen held the title of GM not Gruden.
