What about Marty Schottenheimer...I never hear his name come up I don't know why. I think he would be a perfect fit here. They would have to give him complete control and I have no doubt he would turn this team around in a pretty quick fashion. Can't you imagine what he could do with VD, Crabs and Gore. He knows his stuff and I believe Manusky worked with him in SD. I don't really care about his playoff record, just let him get us back as a legit NFL team and everything else will follow suit.

I'd prefer Gruden, but I have a feeling it's going to be Brian Billick

I agree. He can pull a double switch with Alex Smith/Rachal with Carr/Snyder and will actually make it work!

What about Brian Schottenheimer? He's been getting HC looks for years but just hasn't made it yet. He's a great offensive mind, and could work wonders with the talent we have on offense. I imagine if he got the gig, he'd want to bring Bill Callahan along as O-coord (and probably O-line coach as well).
Thoughts?
I second this. Schotty would bring something new and fresh.

Not sure why this guy gets so much credit. They are 2nd in rush yards but 27th in pass yards. They benefit from their defense and getting turnovers. 1,100 passing yards for Sanchez in 6 games... 183 a game. Plus not sure I want him keeping his Uncle Kurt as special teams coordinator.
Last year, 2nd to last in passing, year before 16th in passing, 25th the year before, 17th the year before that...
for rushing they where 2nd last year, 19th, 19th, 20th
Plus they have a better line than us.
So basically do you want another run oriented offense? You want to be around on average 22nd in the league in passing and 15th in rushing.

Jon Gruden has NOT developed a QB. He's had success with 2 old vets; Rich Gannon and Brad Johnson. Without those 2, he struggled at the QB position. One major reason for this is due to the overly-complicated nature of his offense, and in particular his offense's verbiage.
Let's all just remember these facts when lusting over the idea of Gruden.

Kind of my updated want list...
DC:
Keith Butler - Steelers LB coach (studying under Dick Lebeau) Would have to pay big bucks because he is next in line as Steelers DC after Lebeau retiers.
OC:
Mike Mularkey - Falcons OC/Bring with QB coach Musgrave (have to pay big bucks to persuade to leave (ATL could deny permission since it's a latteral move)
Kyle Shanahan - Redskins OC/Former Texans OC - Same as above...
Plenty of others I can't think of right now.
Guys Who would be on top of our list (probably don't want to come here):
Jon Gruden - Former Bucs/Raiders HC
Bill Cowher - Former Steelers HC
Tony Dungy - Former Bucs/Colts HC
Alternate HCs:
Jim Harbaugh (Stanford)
Mike Mularkey (Falcons OC)/Musgrave (QB Coach) (would be OC then)
Sean McDermott - Eagles DC (bring Mornhinweg with as OC)
EdiT: As much as I am intrigued by all these assistants and Jim Harbaugh I think we need to spend the money and get one of the proven winning coaches. I don't want us to make the wrong choice 4 times in a row (Erickson, Nolan, Sing)

Tony Dungy is my dream pick. Doesn't yell like an ogre or do stupid things like pull his pants down, yell at opposing team's players, clap when the opposition scores or gets a turnover from us, say he needs to look at film as if he wasn't at the game, or call people rats. Man...plus working with Peyton, he might be a better QB evaluator than the other candidates. Gruden is overrated and won a Super Bowl with the team Dungy built. Cowher doesn't have LeBeau or the Steelers organization that is elite in building from the draft and finding great players in later rounds. Billick had Ray Lewis(aka Ravens defense) and he was supposed to specialize in offense in which the Ravens were subpar

Forget about Gruden, Cowher and Dungy, you're living in dream world if you think they would come here. Mike Mularkey was a previous HC at Buffalo and failed, however I think with that experience in mind and doing such great things with Matt Ryan and that offense, I wouldn't be opposed to it.
I'm thinking more and more it's gonna be Billick. Definitely not that flashy pick by any means but does meet certain criteria:
Previous HC
Previous Superbowl Winner
Previous OC (Offensive Background)
Regular Season Record as HC is 80-64
