so u would rather trade for an unproven/overrated qb than acquire an experienced via free agency???

Id take Derek Anderson over McNabb

they're equals in my eyes.

Mcnabb could eat a dick. I dont want him on this team

not true. He got his money upfront, next year his salary is only 1.4 million.

Philadelphia is paying Kolb $11.4 million this season, but it drops to only $1.4 million next season,

Over the weekend I heard a couple of commentators suggest that Philly would be foolish to part with Kolb given the number of injuries Vick has had. I agree.

I don't believe he is worth the 1st round pick Philly is asking. I wouldn't even give up a second for a guy who has such a short list of accomplishments. A 3rd is as high as I would go, of course all of this talk ignores the fact that the 49ers are now going to be forced to over-pay for a mediocre FA now that Alex has made it clear he is done with this train wreck.

Its kind of a crappy situation that the 49ers need to move on from A.Smith but there really aren't going to be a lot of options besides the draft. A.Smith is the 23rd rated passer this year, one spot ahead of Sam Bradford. But Bradford is a rookie and A.Smith a veteran.

Maybe Kolb plays better than Smith, maybe not. I would give out a 3rd or lower for him, but the 49ers still need to use that #7 pick on a QB. There are a bunch of lower-grade QB's in the draft that could be real gems in the late rounds.

Final numbers: Smith finished #21 after being as low as 29 under Raye. Bradford wound up #25

Where did Kolb finish?
Though he didn't have enough attempts to make the big list, his final rating was 76.1, which would put him just ahead of Chad Henne in #26. (6 points BEHIND Alex)

that disqualifies your opinion...i didnt want to trade for mcchocke last spring but if we could get him for free, i wouldnt resist at all.

he is surrounded by one of the best systems in the league...

I recorded the Eagles game yesterday, I looked at every throw Kolb made and rated them either good or bad. I didn't count the throws that were batted or the ones he threw away. Kolb threw 3 interceptions. The 1st one was a hell marry at the end of the 1st half in the end zone. The 2nd one was a curl route this was a very bad throw. The 3rd Int. was late in the game with less than a minute to go, he threw a jump ball pass up the side line that the CB out jumped the small receiver. Kolb threw another bad throw on a deep crossing pattern that Kolb threw in the dirt. I didn't think he did a bad job yesterday; he is still my first option for a QB next year.

Yesterday Kolb made 19 good and 11 bad throws. Some of Kolb's bad throws were caught by the receivers. If the receiver caught the ball but it was thrown to high or on the wrong shoulder I still counted it as a bad throw.

I'll watch shot cuts of the 49ers game and see how Alex numbers compares to Kolb numbers. I might do the same with Matt Shaub just to see where Kolb ranks with other QBs

That is good news/bad news.

Bad news because in the Reid system he should be doing better.

Good news because he has been well trained and should be better able to bring his core skills and fundamentals to the 49ers. I think of Shaun Hill coming from Minne where he was much better trained than any of the 49er QBs.

So while he might need more coaching and PT, he's still no better than a single 2nd round value for me.
The league clarified today that no players may be traded until the new CBA is in place. Only draft picks may be traded. Therefore, Kolb is out of discussion until the new CBA is signed.
kolb shouldn't even be a consideration. He is overrated and isn't as great as some like to think he is. It would be a waste of a trade.

I don't either man...he's had some good games and he's had some s**tty games...people hope he will be the next Aaron Rodgers but I'm not seeing that.

Hes no better than Alex Smith, imo.
Both are inconsistent as hell and are basically turn over machines.

because it would be like trading away 2 1rst round picks to PHL to get Alex Smith back.

I agree, although I think Philly would settle for a 1st and a 2012 3rd. Still a bad trade off.
I like Kolb..I'd only give up a 2nd. for him though...The absolute worse they I'd consider is a swap of 1st. rounders..

Kolb wants to start or he wants out of Philly

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 10, 2011, 12:28 AM EST

Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb said all the right things this season and couldn’t have been more supportive of Michael Vick. Now that the season is over, another approach is being used.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer credits a source that says Kolb wants out if the Eagles bring back Vick as a starter. Heck, the source may as well be Kolb’s post-game quotes. He doesn’t try to hide his feelings.

“I love it here, as everybody knows,” Kolb said. “My family’s settled in here. I would love to be starting here. But I want to be starting somewhere.”

Kolb was asked if he could handle another season as a backup in Philadelphia.

“I can’t answer that question,” Kolb said.

It didn’t take long for the offseason quarterback drama to start in Philly again, did it? We suspect this episode will drag on a while because the Eagles probably don’t want to let go Kolb go.
