I can see why a Raider fan would be optimistic. On the other hand, I think it's a little early to be calling Carr 'the real thing' or the answer to their problems. Everyone seems to be jumping on his bandwagon after a mixed first season with a 76 QB rating and I wonder if they've noticed that new QB's often do better in their first year than their second because NFL defenses have film to take apart on them after their first year.
It's not always about numbers, pay attention to the "it factor". Derek Carr has IT. A fiery leader, that can make all the throws.
Of course there's a learning curve with all QBs, but not all have the "it factor".
The it factor....how does that logic fit with your logic on the 49ers ?...you want to talk potential in a positive way when they showed nothing last year ?....lol
When you go from a championship coach to an assistant coach you lose a lot of "it factor".

He doesn't look like he has that strong an arm to me. His yards per catch was probably the lowest in the league among regular starters. What he had last year was really good pass protection. I believe the Raiders line was rated at #4 in the league in terms of pass protection by Football Outsiders. If he continues to get that kind of protection and they add some receivers, he may well end up being real good. But at this point, I think it's premature.
That's the thing, stats don't show everything, like the intangibles. It's ok though because not all people can recognize "it factor".
You're not following your logic (del rio)
