i think winning football games is better than having no arm. for example alex smith = great physical specimen but cant win any games

I'll take a non studly gamer that wins over a combine stud that can throw a ball through a fence, but might not have what counts between the ears, or a feel for the game.

I wouldn't say Alex Smith has no heart. He seems like a stand-up guy and a tough guy to me. He tries to play through pain. I've never even seen an NFL QB throw passes after separating his shoulder a few weeks before. He just hasn't demonstrated that he can consistently win games, that's all.

Shaun Hill has demonstrated that he can win games and he has a winning record, so he should be the starter.

You have to understand that most of the 'zone is a bubble occupied by perpetual supporters of anything and everything that has to do with the team. Their idea of being a "true fan" is throwing blind support behind all players and coaches (regardless of reality) until or unless those players and coaches prove that they don't deserve it. Anyone who doesn't do that is labeled a "troll" and is bombarded with personal attacks.

Everybody is so high on Shuan Hill because he basically wins games. 7-3 as a starter for the 49ers. Hill is a winner.

Well so is Smith. In his last 12 Healthy starts, Smith is 7-5. Thats 7-5 with a team that was not as talented as the one Hill has gotten to play with the last two seasons.

The truth of the matter is that Smith was winning games before he got hurt and no one can dispute that (although I'm sure some will try). The only thing that makes Smith a bust at the moment are his injuries. If Smith has fully recovered I expect to see him continue to improve as a player.

Here you go again. When he's healthy... Why can't some people just look at the whole stats? You can make anybody look good if you get selective about what stats you want to look at and what you want to ignore...

For Example... Ryan Leaf is 4 and 0 against teams that lost to the chargers while he started. That's better then 7-3 or 7-5 right?

No, I'm looking at a QB progressively getting better as his career goes on. If you look at his career he actually improves through his second year. So it is a huge thing to look at his last 12 games before getting hurt because then you are actually evuluating his career instead of just looking at what you want to see.

And yes he did have a lot to do in those victories. The Monday nighter against Arizona would have been a lose if not for Smith's 4th quarter come back. The game against Seattle up in Seattle with the Naked bootleg. That game was won by Smith. The season finally against Denver. All those games Smith played a significant roll in winning them.

But I knew some of you haters would do this. Set a double standard for Hill and Smith. Hill gets all the records for his wins while Smith gets no credit for his.

Thats not entirely true, I like Hill a lot. And I will support which ever QB 100%. I just don't think that Hill and Smith are that far apart. I also don't think Smith is as bad as some people on here make him out to be. Some of the things being said about the kid are just outrageous. So I try to subjective and look at his games and look at the numbers. I just don't see someone who is as bad as he is made out to be. Prior to his injuries he looked to be someone on his way to being a decent starting NFL QB.

I'm just using the standard in which Shuan Hill is judge by. I also aknowledge that Smiths injury is a huge deciding factor in his future success. However, before getting hurt, Smith was winning games and improving his play. Thats what i saw and thats what I believe he can resume doing if healthy and all accounts from OTA's so far are pointing to him looking healthy.

Plus there is significant difference between being hurt and being healthy. Do you judge a world class sprinter the same when he has a pulled hamstring or do you take into account when evaluating him.

Look we all know how this is going to go... I'll point out and prove with stats that His performance was actually declining towards the end of these 12 games you speak of and you will come back with Hos being his OC for his last 3 healthy games.

I'll point out and prove with stats that Hill was able to have success with Hos as an OC and you will say Hos had help.

I'll point out that Smith has never had a wining record and you'll point out Hill has too few of starts to base his success off of.

Fact is you are so sold on Smith that you will go down with the ship (so to say) and I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe Smith can be a better QB then Hill, JTO, or even Rattay...

Neither of us will budge on our views until we see conclusive proof.
