Romello Height is definitely not the prototypical Kocurek edge. I don't think Kocurek is a big fan of small finesse rushers. He likes big, powerful ends who play through contact and maintain rush lane integrity. This could be a Raheem Morris guy.
It's going to be interesting to see who else they bring in for a private visit. It could be a sign of Morris' changes in the front. Less base wide 9; more 5-man surfaces. Building on what Saleh started last season.
A guy to keep an eye on that I was watching yesterday was Gabe Jacas. You want to talk about a thick, powerful dude that wins with speed-2-powe and collapses the pocket. That's a classic KK guy.

Yes and No. I think your assessment of traditional 49er, Kocurek type base edges is correct. But this team has traditionally valued a designated pass rusher as well. Leonard Floyd, Samson Ebukam, Dee Ford. We've consistently rostered a sub 250 end with speed.
I'm also a little lost on DE targets this year. Jacas, Derrick Moore, Dennis Sutton are types I would normally zoom in on. But mixing in 5 man fronts, I'm not sure if we are looking at ends with inside outside versatility like LT Overton and Caden Curry, or more pure edge builds that can rush or be pulled back to cover in the flat like Height or Barham. Going to be an interesting draft for the front 7 especially.
Absolute bull.

Sure, but I'm speaking specifically about the draft. They've never drafted a DPR and always prioritized guys with the ability or the potential to be every down players. Drake Jackson is the smallest guy they've drafted, and even he was 250(asked to gain weight in the NFL). Kentavius Street(end/IDL), Nick Bosa, and Mykel Williams are all over 260 pounds. Solomon Thomas too if you consider him one.
btw Samson Ebukam definitely fits the classic KK mold. One of the pound-4-pound strongest players in the NFL. Every rush rep was a speed-2-power.Absolute bull.

They've looked for them, but not with heavy draft capital as the DPR is definitely not an every down player in a 4-3. Eli Harold, Pita Taumoepenu, Robert Beal.
I think the point is, I'm sure you agree, we would normally not be in the running for Mason Thomas or Romello because we wouldnt want to spend the draft capital needed for a guy who is only coming into the game on 3rd and 8+. But with Morris, and not knowing exactly what our system is going to look like, the door may open up for these type of guys. If you are going to play more 5 man fronts and increase their snap count, then the value to the team goes up.
So in a normal year, where I would only watch late round DPR guys like Trey Moore or George Gumbs, I'm now having to watch film on Josh Josephs and the like.

I see a lot of people saying Howell in mid round 2, I dont think he will last till that long. What do we think of him at #27 ?

My thoughts are ABSOLUTELY NOT. But this is going to be rather dependent on what Raheem Morris wants to do with the defense. The thing is our current construction and our big splash with Osa, still points to a 4-3 defense. And in that case, Howell is going to a limited snap player. He's going to be off the field on run downs. And even as a DPR, hes going to struggle to maintain rush lane integrity from the wide 9.
Now if we are going to go with way more 5 man fronts, and utilize Howell on 50% of snaps as a standup edge rush LB then you could argue that he might be worth a first round pick. I just have no way of knowing that those are changes are being made.

Need a 3rd rounder to have a shot at Jacas - think he's a bit of a reach at #58. Trade down to 70-80 from 58 for extra picks and draft Jacas there and I'd be down.
I agree with you - he is a thick and powerful dude when I was watching his highlights. He didn't seem very fast in his acceleration but I still liked him.
Is Cashius Howell big enough for Kocurek? He is a dawg that explodes off the screen and plays super nasty and angry. We have run stopping edges we need a dude who can be unleased and gets home to the QB one on one while the rest of the OL deals with Bosa, Osa, West, and Mykel.
Howell is a mid-2nd rounder though so another weird spot where he's a reach at #27 but won't be there at #58
