IMO its best available DT or CB with the first pick. It could change though if Mike McGlinchey leaves in the off season.

I agree but the DTs after the first round just don't look that great a fit this year to me

2nd to 3rd rounds, I think the DT's are solid. I wouldn't get caught up too much in what system they fit. I think if they're solid at stopping the run and can penetrate they're good enough to play in any system.

Bryan Bresee - 6'5" 300 pounds , Clemson
Tyler Davis - 6'3" 300 pounds, Clemson
Byron Young - 6'3" 295 pounds, Alabama

Just a few DT's I been watching this year, that I think would shine next to Armstead and help stop the run up the middle. I wish the 49ers could somehow get their hands on Jalen Carter, one of the best DT's I've seen in awhile, more than worthy of a top 10-15 pick.

Unfortunately, Carter looks like he's going to be a Seahawk.

I think Seattle has a top 5 pick as it stands. You think they use it on a DT? Unless you mean moving up with their second first.

Carter is a top 5 prospect

If you've looked at the Seahawks needs, DT and Edge rusher are their two biggest needs. They get run on by everyone and they don't have a premier pass rusher right now. Carter and Anderson, Jr are the two biggest targets unless they decide to go get their QB of the future.

They have the draft ammo to get anyone they want this draft, even trading down gets them some pretty good defenders. They can come away with the best edge, 2nd best DT and best safety. Will probably get one of the best RBs too plus some good role players mid rounds like G, CB, WR and LB

I'm guessing they select a QB some time in the draft, possibly even Bryce Young. Matter of fact I'm gonna lock Bryce Young to Seattle already. Let Geno start while their two young Tackles gain more experience, then put Young in.
I think there are 2 glaring areas of need.... Offensive Tackle and Cornerback. After that, I would say C and S

Tackle I think can be had in round 5. Because most likely they re-sign McGlinchey.

FS- I personally am not a huge fan of Jimmie Ward.

CB- Outside of Charvarius and possibly Moseley not sure what we have here.

LB- cheaper to Resign Omenihu, Hyder, Willis than Al-Shaair IMO

C & T- no explanation needed.

100% agree on this.

FS -I think they should resign Gipson and draft a guy to be groomed

CB needs some help ASAP
LB Burks can replace what Shaair brings
C & T - agreed

McGlinchey is getting expensive at over $10 cap hit. While he is very good at run blocking he is not as good in pass protection. I am not of the view he is worth the money especially with the amount of times he gets pushed around on the edge, misses defenders or incurs stupid penalties. I would like to see a replacement drafted and McGlinchey given just a 12 month contract to see if he can improve his pass defense and stop the stupid penalties.
CB is last @ 13%??

So glad people here don't draft,...lol.

If you think he's expensive now,...try keeping 2 top flight LT-worthy players on your team.

I know you're new to football, but by nature of the position, right tackles are to be better run blockers than pass blockers.

Excellent pass blockers get rewarded with LT money.

49ers don't draft until the 3rd round so, need-picks are pretty irrelevant IMO. There's gonna be a lot of talent left in the 3rd round, so I think you go BPA and BPA could actually be CB when the 9rs draft. I think they'll be a good amount of CB talent there in the 3rd-5th rounds, so I wouldn't worry too much.

How many CB's have we drafted the past 4 drafts?

Free agency is the way to go for O-line & CB's for us.

Alright, but do you feel like OT, DT, and and OC are bigger draft needs for us?

In a year where we'll probably be hunting for comp picks, keep in mind that every legit starter we sign in FA is a potential comp pick erased.

In contrast to signing a player like McGlinchey a little more than we'd like to, but not losing any picks for doing so.
WE either sign another CB or another OL then take the BPA!!
RT -- re-sign McGlinchey
C -- re-sign Brendel + re-sign Brunskill?
FS -- re-sign Gipson + draft backup
CB -- re-sign Moseley

DE -- draft + re-sign Willis, maybe bring back Key as a FA,
DT -- draft + re-sign Hurst, McGill, maybe Omenihu
TE -- draft
LB -- draft
K -- draft

if they were somehow able to make a splash, I think it would be for a DE or DT

I'm not sure but I think we can't rely on rookie CB's to come in and start, it just hasn't worked. We can put subpar CB's on the field if our pass rush remains at the current level but we cannot look for lockdown CB's if we can't get to the QB. So I do place a higher value/need on D-line than the CB position. O-line will always need a patch here and there as we don't seem to value the IOL positions.

We don't need much and that is a good thing.
