MadDog's Thoughts on this Draft

This just can't be repeated often enough. Everyone, GM's, talking heads, draftniks, everyone. And then of course there are the numerous picks that were entirely justified but thanks to injury or a failure of coaching never get developed optimally. And the other guys who are drafted into a crap team or a team which, one year later, changes its coach and scheme and no longer needs that particular player.

This so much English, so well said better than I could.

The development and coaching is such a large part of the process too.

People definitely overlook that part of the process. Obviously the kids have to have the talent and work ethic to put it all together but scheme and coaching is so important. There's a reason some teams tend to nail their picks more often than others.

Interesting to see how MadDogs picks from 22 draft have fared. Thoughts?

2. Nakobe Dean- LB, Georgia (drafted 22 picks after the Niners selected Jackson)
3. Nick Cross- S, Maryland (drafted 3 picks after the Niners selected Davis-Price)
3. Perrion Winfrey- DT, Oklahoma (drafted 3 picks after the Niners selected Gray)
4. Calvin Austin- WR, Memphis (drafted 4 picks after the Niners selected Burford)
5. Kellen Diesch- OT. Arizona State (UFA)
6. Dohnovan West- G, Arizona State (UFA)
6. Carson Strong- QB, Nevada (UFA)
6. Jojo Domann- S/ST- Nebraska (UFA)
7. Haskell Garrett- DT, Ohio State (UFA)

Yes, his insight and hard work was always a highlight of the Draft Room convo. It's been a little over a year since his last post. Pray he is doing well.

Nakobe Dean - 42 snaps in 2022, 5 games in 2023 (injury)

Nick Cross - not a starter, hardly sees the field.

Perrion Winfrey - played roughly 1/3 of snaps as a rookie. Was cut after his rookie year for serious off field stuff. Signed to different teams practice squad. Now a free agent.

Calvin Austin - 180 career receiving yards

Kellen Diesch - has been on 3 different practice squads

Dohnovan West - was signed to 49ers practice squad and didn't make the cut. Moved to the XFL. Now plays in the UFL.

Carson Strong - never made a roster, now in the UFL

Jojo Domann - special teams only as a rookie. Waived after. Made the practice squad for a second team in as many years

Haskell Garrett - never made a team and is no longer in the NFL.

Hasn't been very fruitful for the 49ers either outside of Brock Purdy, but they still won this one, even without him. Add in Brock Purdy, and it's a land slide.

Was gonna say that turned out to be an awful shadow draft 😂
