Javon Kinlaw-DT-South Carolina

The dline should be better than last year. We now have 4 explosive penetrating linemen in bosa kinlaw arik and ford. Kinlaw has the highest potential of any dlinemen in the draft.

100%. He's a wrecking machine. Gonna be better than Brown. CD was the flashy pick and I woulda loved that too, but Kinlaw 6'6" 320 in that front four. Yikes

Chase Young disagrees.

I do think Kinlaw has a higher ceiling than Brown but may not be as impactful early on. He has more potential as a pass rusher.
You got to love a guy who comes from nothing and works his ass off. Great back story to go with the physical gifts. Happy for the pick. We have to have people coming in for those going out. Next year we will need another pass rusher to replace Dee Ford. This is how building in the trenches goes.

Also gotta love a guy that's 325 pounds, and not fat. Guy is a monster human.
Why wasn't this guy more productive in college? I know the SEC is tough, so you don't necessarily expect inflated stats, but I'm struck by the difference in tackles and sacks between him and Buckner's last year at Oregon.

When I watched him play against Alabama, he made big plays but also got completely taken out of a ton of plays as well. His on field impact was totally boom/bust.

Well, for one he's raw. Nobody is denying that. He was also asked to two gap . If you watch his tape, youll notice he played a lot out of a frog stance. That's not a technique that's conducive to pass rushing whatsoever. That's a read and react technique.

That won't happen here. Ever.

From some of his highlights, he was double, sometime triple teamed
Good fit and value there. He is going to play alot of snaps. Will look good between DJ Jones and Ford with Bosa/AA wrecking the other side.

5-2 defense?

Seriously, every photo I see of him is like damn that dude is impressively big.
While it is going to be very difficult to replace Buckner and was incredibly sad seeing him go, I like this pick. Buckner was built more like a lanky DE, while Kinlaw is more of a prototypical interior lineman. The dude is a mountain of a man. Watching his brute force shoving guys back in the highlight films is very impressive.

I do like that we are also sticking with the formula. 1st round draft picks on the D-line got us there and the value of a dominant line has only increased in the pass-happy league era. This pick makes sense to me.

Great post. I agree with your assessment. Even better is the fact that Kinlaw can play every position on the D line! He's big enough to be a pure run stopper yet he has enough burst and pass rushing skills to play outside. I'm very much warming up to this pick.
