He won't be there at 6

Unless the Raiders take him I think he might. But he just bested Julio in bench, vertical and 40, so maybe he goes at 4.

Normally I'd agree, but then I look at how ridiculously deep this draft is with pass rushers and I re-evaluate my position. You do not see 6'3 WRs with his speed, explosiveness, body control and strength. 6 is too high, but some people are thinking about giving up the No. 2, No. 36 and next year's 1st for OBJ.

He's not Kevin White. I am confident he will be productive. If we land a quality edge in free agency, I think it might be worth the risk to draft an edge player from the second tier because of how deep this draft is at the position.
Who are these high quality FA edges of which you speak? Brandon Graham was probably the top one expected to be available and he is now off the market.

Good call. Unless one of the Tier 1 free agent edge rushers doesn't get tagged, Graham was the best value of the Tier 2 pass rushers. Now Shaq Barrett looks like the best value free agent edge rusher available.
The idea is not crazy. I'd be stoked if we pulled that off. But a LOT of things would have to break the right way for that to happen.

On the other hand, without relying on luck, we could easily not trade and end up with Bosa/Allen and Harry/Deebo/AJB/Harmon/Butler.

Honest question, if each one worked out as well as possible, which would you prefer?

Bosa and Harry

Or

DK and Burns

I'm not sure myself....

I do not have Harry that far away from DK at all.

The difference is there won't be free agent wide receivers similar in caliber to Za'Darius Smith, Trey Flowers or Donte Fowler. Now there is still time to franchise the latter (Smith is almost certainly hitting the open market), but the bigger picture will include a free agency analysis.

Why would the 49ers sign average to slightly above average WRs in FA when they can draft a guy like Samuel, Ridley, Brown or Isabella after taking Bosa or Allen?
This draft is really setting up well for us. There are so many great picks for us in rounds 1 and 2. We really just need to see how FA falls to really focus in on needs. The only real wildcard I see right now is the potential OBJ trade but if Kyle falls in love with a few second round WR then there would be less need to break the bank for OBJ.

Maybe best case scenario for the OP is trade down with NYG.

#2 for Olivier Vernon, #6 and #37 maybe a 2020 3rd(ish)

I am saying we could get TWO better than average pass rushers (one in the second round, one via free agency) and Metcalf, or we could get ONE better than average wide receiver along with Bosa (I am not nearly as high on Allen as Bosa).

We can't hedge our bet with WR like we can with pass rusher, if we act strongly in free agency, because while there are quality pss rushers that will likely hit the market (a rarity as it is), there are NOT quality wrs that will hit the market.

I love your passion for WRs, because I do think it's a position we've neglected for a long time, which has really cost us.

But I disagree with you about WR availability compared to DE availability. Productive veteran WRs change teams every offseason. Are they Julio Jones? Usually no.... But there are still PLENTY of starting WRs who make a make a real impact that become available. How often does that happen with pass rushers?

If you want a hedge at WR, then trade our 3rd for Antonio Brown and sign Moncrief and Parker (there are others available but those are the two I'd like). Or spend both 6th rounders on guys like Doss and Keeshaun Johnson. Because productive WRs come out of the later rounds way more often than productive pass rusher do.

This is funny... usually I'm the one arguing for a WR to be taken higher... so I do get your desire to see some real WR talent on our team again. But with this draft composition I think DE then WR is our best move.
Ixnay.
Every year there's WR prospects everyone falls in love with that are sexy. We love the idea of a dominant unstoppable WR but even the best WR's in history dont guarantee a SB. 10/10 teams would tell you that a dominant ER is more valuable than a dominant receiver.

There's 2 guys at the top of this draft that are defense changing players. To me, it's a no brainer that we draft one of those 2 guys. Either one would be like adding 3 players in defense.

Amen.
Bosa all the way but let's not act like defensive end has been pivotal to win titles the past decade either. Brandon Flowers led the Patriots. Eagles Graham. These are sub 10 sack system guys. Really the only thing you need in this league is good qb play.
