I hear you guys... great points
But there were some GMs that thought Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russells would be the next line of great QBs... so please stop lying to yourself saying the GMs know best...
if you were to tell me Scott Mcloughlan thought someone would be great and traded up to get his guy, I would give him benefit of the doubt (he turned around 9ers, seahawks and helped redskins). but who are adam peters and John Lynch as talent evaluators? what have they done to deserve giving them a pass. great find on colbert, taylor and kittle last year and my hats off to them,
unlike some, I am not unhappy that we didnt draft a pass rushing DE... thats fine.. if they thought there were none that warranted picking up, its ok...
but I just dont like when we OVERVALUE Mcglinchey and Pettis and Kentavious... what i mean is if u were to ask not the webzone, but ALL scouts and talent evaluators, they all had way lower values when they were picked up.. I understand why they had to get mcglinchey.. thats fine.. i wont argue... but pettis was supposed to go 3rd rd (even he admitted he was shocked because he heard from most he would be third rd, maybe late 2nd at best), Kentavious was supposed to go 6th rd or later... are you really going to tell me that the ONLY WR that would fit shannys game plan in the whole draft was Pettis?? its like... if you really really like a house and they are asking for 1 million, would you just come out offer 2 million and be ok buying it while you are not a very rich person? I understand if you are a multi millionaire and thats ok.. but we have SO MANY holes on this team, and many places we could get better. dont have the luxury of just throwing aside picks
Overvalued according to who? You, some other "expert" who is lucky to bat .500 in draft prognostications? There's been evidence provided that suggested that the McGlinchey and Petits picks were not the reaches the general fans thought they were according to NFL personnel guys on other teams who were ready to select that player right about the time the 49ers were.
You were unhappy with the draft based on fan projection of players they never spoke to. Fans are wrong every year. Every year there are players projected by fans and media to go in the 1st that go in the 3rd, and there are guys set to go on day three that go on day 1 or 2.
Every year there are "reaches" that turn out to be PB players and every year there are slam-dunk picks that bust outright.
