Yes you can. There's ZERO tape of him beating tackles. No tape whatsoever. You can project for a second rounder, but at number 2 overall you pull the trigger on the surest thing you can find. You cannot project here. That's what we would be doing on Gary.

Yeah he came into college as the top ranked player in college playing DT. I think he switched to DE because he can make more cash there....he's clearly not a edge rusher and should add that bulk back and play 3-tech especially on passing downs. Simms called him a crash end which imo isn't something you draft in the top 5.

It could very well be that Gary is the #2 edge and top 5 player on their board. Maybe Kocurek concluded that Bosa = Avril+ and Gary = Ansah.

But how they play their board with their picks is TBD.
My guess is that they are preparing for (at least) three scenarios:
1. Take Bosa at 2
2. Let someone trade up for Bosa, take Gary
3. Let someone trade up for Bosa, take QW

They'll probably gauge whether the difference between Bosa-QW and Bosa-Gary is worth the extra pick(s).
But, to create those trade offers, they need to see what the demand is. I'm sure that's why they are telling Simms and Barrows stuff. They wouldn't have much leverage if they just told the Jets or Bucs that they just want to swap picks. They've got to bluff and play hard to get.

Also, if Gary is a project then what is Allen as a pass rusher? He needs to be developed in that area, so by the same standard he would not be worthy of a top 5 pick.

Nah dude...Simms has a connection with Gary, he's know him since HS. That has no baring on shanahan feeling like Gary is the best edge rusher in this draft.
