Summary: Gary could be high on the 49er's board. For example, right behind Bosa and QW.

Exhibit A: Chris Simms is buddies with Shanahan. Simms thinks Gary is 2nd best DE. Simms has always like Gary, but some zoners also think this could imply that the 49ers are high on Gary too.

Exhibit B: Barrows said that the 49ers cancelled Gary's visit. Some zoners think this could mean the 49ers have Gary high on the board and are using a McGlinchey-type smokescreen.

Exhibit C: Kocurek coached Ansah in DET. Mayhew drafted Ansah. Some draftniks compare Gary to Ansah - both are freaks of nature. Maybe the 49ers rank Gary high because Kocurek thinks he can do well in wide 9 alignment.

IMO: I guess I wouldn't be surprised now if he's in their top 5. I would be a bit surprised if they took him at #2. In his first draft, Lynch talked about how they gameplan for draft-day scenarios and try to stay focused on the overall draft haul. My guess is they like Bosa/QW/Gary and will entertain offers to move out of #2 (so long as they can still get one). I think exhibit A, exhibit B, and any 49ers rumor about Bosa/QW is meant to draw out interested trade partners.

He's a really good athlete who would most likely be the #1 or #2 defensive lineman on everyones board in a normal year but this isn't a normal year. The best players are all in the D line group. The reverse is true for QB's. In a strong year for QB's, Murray, Haskins and Locke would be the 3rd or 4th picks at that position with maybe Murray the only first rounder. It happened with Alex Smith when he went #1 overall. He was good enough to be drafted in the first round but would never have gone #1 overall if it was a strong QB draft.

This is what scares me about a trade down. I don't trust the front office to not do something stupid like trade out and end up with Gary.

Hey looky here! someone else who shares my same thoughts. I know the masses think it HAS TO BE Bosa or QW but i really don't think it will be. I will throw Sweat and Ferrell in your grouping as well. What do all 5 have in common? they can all play the run as well as get after the passer. I think they are more about stopping the run while the masses want to rush the passer.

I could see him being on our board as a trade down option. He's fast, powerful, we've fell for sparq before (Solly).

Most hyped non producing player in the edge class. I keep rewatching videos, and while I see a freak athlete, I don't see a very good edge rusher.
