I would love to get this kid in the second round.

I mean his skill set is for ZBS which takes him off a ton of teams draft boards already....there's a ton of good center prospects in this draft. Also center isn't usually a top end pick in drafts.

I could see him there in the 3rd round.

This is a good draft class and not everyone cane be day 1 and day 2 players, I agree he could be there in the first half of the 4th round. If we dont grab a top tier C in FA then this position def gets bumped up. I'm worried that Staley and Jimmy G are vouching for Kilgore and we keep him, I'd love to see Jensen come via FA and use our late 4th or 5th to grab a developmental guy like Daniels.

Nah. I can think of a lot of interior OL who will go before him. Due to the depth of this draft class you will see high quality interior linemen going 4 rounds deep. I think Daniels goes late 2nd to late 3rd depending on combine numbers.
Haven't watched much of this kid, all I kno is he's very young and all I think of is the C out of USC, forget his name, the niners took in the 3rd under bc he was very young coming out, not comparing the play of each bc idk much of Daniels but pray if he's a niners pick he's nothing like the USC kid..

Believe they said the same about Frederick

Phoenix, If he was available with one of our early third round picks, would you take him?
Whoops, maybe we didn't give Daniels enough love lol. Daniel Jeremiah has him as a top 25 player on his big board.

James Daniels, C, Iowa

Daniels is a very athletic and technically proficient center. In the run game, he's extremely quick and effective on reach blocks and second-level blocks. I'm amazed by his ability to stay attached with his hands while he re-works his foot positioning. In pass pro, he plays with outstanding knee bend and balance. He shoots his hands quickly and can anchor against power as well as redirect vs. counters. He's very aware. Daniels is one of the best center prospects I've evaluated in the last five years.
Funny they comped him to Chris Chester, who was Kyle and his father's C/G in WAS and ATL. That team college scouting director quote has to be from the 49ers.

STRENGTHS Elite movement talent for the position. Smooth, fluid and flexible. Good snap to step quickness. Initial contact is balanced and well-timed. Outpace defenders laterally and reaches three-techniques all day long. Slides feet into position and swivels hips to secure the block. Easy second-level climber with agility for high connection rate. Takes smart angles. Can beat inside linebackers to the spot and get them sealed. Has reactive athleticism to open hips and redirect against slants on his backside. Snatches and mirrors for block centering and sustaining on work-up blocks. Finishes. Technically sound and works well with his guards. Pass sets with wide base and plus balance. Rarely caught lunging or over-extending against athletic rushers. Has foot quickness to stay mirrored and handle counters. Rolls hips under him for quality anchor.

WEAKNESSES Played lighter than he needs to be as a pro. Has to continue to add functional mass to his frame. Power at the point of attack is average. Bull-rushers make him work overtime to maintain his anchor. Will struggle to recover if nose guards get hands on him first. Target points can be too high in pass sets causing hands to slide up and off opponent. Gets in a hurry to climb on top of second level linebacker and will leave initial block unsecured for guard next to him. Scheme didn't allow for much drive blocking.

DRAFT PROJECTION Round 2

SOURCES TELL US "The Iowa guys are always going to be quick and proficient, but you have to see them tested against power because they are usually going to be a little smaller, too. This guy has decent size and I think he's got pretty good functional power. He would come in and challenge for best center in our division right away." -- NFC team college scouting director

NFL COMPARISON Chris Chester

BOTTOM LINE Daniels is a fluid mover with tremendous initial quickness to win positioning on most every zone block he's asked to make -- both on the first and second levels. His height, weight and arm length numbers at the Combine will be critical in either solidifying his draft slot or potentially dropping him a round. Some teams might see him as a zone-only center, but he may be strong enough to fit in with other blocking schemes. He needs to get stronger, but he's a plus run blocker and pass protector with a chance to become a Pro Bowl starter.-Lance Zierlein

I think that because FA is first that we do have to spend some money in case we strike out, I would get creative with the contracts though. Bring in one FA who we could get rid of after 2 years with little penalty, bring back Kilgore and maybe Fusco on one year deals.

Then we're free to draft two or even three of these exceptional interior lineman, that way there are mentors in place, we'd have great depth and be able to absorb the cap hit while we have the money.

I'm yet to watch Daniels but he looks like exactly what we need, I'm also a fan of Price. As for the Guards there are several, Nelson, Wynn, Braden Smith and loads of Tackle converts, we could build a foundation of young monsters who could lead our line for a long time.

IMO, Price will be the better C out of the gate, but Daniels will be The Dude in 2020.

I think the new regime has shown they definitely are open to what you mentioned as far as getting guys in for 2-3 years and draft guys to be push starters asap. Examples Garcon, Malcolm Smith.
Watching Kelce's ridiculous athleticism and ability to work into the second level and pull into space has me wanting us to draft Daniels.

I wouldn't mind it at all. Philadelphia offensive line played a great game tonight

Yeah, I want that OL. Foles got hit what, like once? You give Jimmy G that sort of time in the pocket and he's lighting fools up left and right, regardless of who is at receiver. As I've said, I wouldn't be upset if they just traded down a few times, added several more picks, took a guy like Daniels or a TE like Goedert and continued building the roster, especially the OL with the remaining picks.
