The Marcus Davenport Hype Train Is Leaving the Station

Why did this guy wind up at UTSA? I've read that it took him time to grow into his NFL body, is there any other negative issue? Always worry about character when someone is underrated coming into college.

Yeah, you wouldn't wanna waste your 49er pick on this guy. It would be comparable to bringing back Tom tupa and making him an ILB.
Yeah I don't get the Armstead comparison at all....

People hear 6'7" and go "sounds like Armstead."

In reality he is probably about 6'5" and far more explosive and agile than Armstead could ever dream of. As others have said he is a lot closer to Aldon Smith than he is to Armstead.

He's not. He's more athletic than Armstead, but Aldon is a far far cry.
What I really like about Davenport, apart from his outstanding athleticism, is: his ability to move around the line, drop into coverage, and play well against the run and pass. Most importantly, I see him possessing violent hands, which is vastly underrated as a trait that leads to success in the NFL. Players like Michael Bennett, Aldon Smith, Derek Barnett and others use this to their advantage on the field to get past OL. Davenport has that trait.
I don't know too much about him but if he does well at the senior bowl and combine. Will you be happy with him as our 2nd pick (saints)?

Absolutely! Speed, agility, strength and the ability to use hands to create space between blockers and himself sounds pretty impressive. I also read that his reach is tremendous, something that is a glaring difference between Aldon and Lynch. Aldon could reach over a blocker and grab the QB, while Lynch is stymied. Davenport sounds more like Aldon. Who knows...he might wind up being better.
I'm all about the hands. It's one of the biggest reasons I knew Carl Lawson would be a beast at the NFL level.

If you want hands, we've got plenty of room aboard the Sensei Mud war wagon.

I'm sure we'd be very happy with him at the Saints pick....but sounds like there's a chance he may not be at our first round pick let alone that one(I think he'll be there at 9/10 anyways)

But no question Davenport will be one to watch at the Senior Bowl.

If he does well he won't be there
Has UDFA written all over him.
