At this point, it seems unlikely that the Patriots will deal Garoppolo. As Ian Rapoport recently said on the NFL Network, "The Browns may make a late run at Garoppolo, but they do not seem to believe there's any hope there."
Rapoport added: "From my understanding, the Patriots do not want to deal Jimmy Garoppolo. They really just don't, whether it's to the Browns, whether it's to the Texans. Their stance right now ... is they do not want to give up someone who they consider a franchise quarterback for a pick this year."
I call BS. You are working out Nathan Peterman and others?. Ok, fine. Looking for Tom Brady's replacement? You have Garappalo. They can draft a QB and deal Garappalo. They would be stupid not to.
On February 28, 2009, the Patriots traded both Cassel and OLB Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs for the No. 34 overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. Garappalo trade will yield way more for NE.
I find it equally plausible that they want to hang onto their FQBotF.
"In 1992, a year before the Montana trade, the Los Angeles Raiders desperately tried to acquire Steve Young from the 49ers. He was the league's top rated passer from the previous year, but perhaps they figured the 49ers would go back to Joe Montana.
[The Raiders] did seek to make the trade on draft day, so perhaps there were some picks involved we don't know about. Still, it's not hard to see why this trade never happened."
