Solomon Thomas--Stanford

Getting a stud playmaker like Peppers would give us that deep FS. I like Thomas a lot...but for me it comes down to what's the bigger need...IMHO it's the deep S position.

OMG....what is this?

"comes down to what's the bigger need" - apparently taking the weaker safety prospect.

Our safeties are arguably our best talent on the defense. Our pass rushers outside of Buckner are awful. Brooks is old. What are you smoking man?
At least pick the best safety if you're going safety ......

What are you smoking my man? Deep FS? He's not even close to a FS...if anything he's a in the box SS hybrid LB. some scouts think he'd be a better offensive player lol.

If you think safety is a bigger needs which it's not, you don't draft peppers...hooker is by far the best FS and Adams is worlds better at SS.

But he athletically fits the part. He tested so well. He also played safety a good 6 plays each game so why can't he do it.

You got the wrong guy. I didn't make that argument for Thomas.

Nice try. Thomas actually makes big impact plays for his position. Peppers who that guy just talked about drafting at #2 to play FS had 1 forced turnover his whole career.

No picks or even forced fumbles for a safety is very alarming. You want guys who have a nose for the ball. Anyone who wants to draft an in the box safety with a top 2 pick needs their head examined.

Not to mention Peppers hurt himself at the combine with his measurements. I think dude lost like a good 2 inches off his listed height and has t-rex arms.

At least for his sr year he was more of a lb in college though. They don't rack up picks. Adrian Wilson only had 3 picks too his college career. But yeah he's not the worth the 3rd pick and I wouldn't touch him until the 3rd. I can downplay Thomas but he has an established position.

This year was the only year he got picks and sacks. I know the game isn't all about that but it's alarming when a guy whose strength is athletic ability isn't making big time plays and getting turnovers. It's a red flag.

You can disagree if Thomas can rush from the outside but pass rushing is pretty straight forward - get to the QB :)

Safeties or even linebackers have a lot more to do and if they're struggling to find the ball it's not a good thing. Drafting a solid tackler who's athletic is something you do in the 3rd round or later. You don't take a guy like that with #2 overall.

If he was a deep safety I'd be more concerned about the lack of picks. He did that spot his sph year and got no picks so there's some concern but as a lb they may get 2-3 fluke picks. Tipped ball drops in their lap. Willis for an example 1 college pick. So you do have to give him a pass at least for his final year because he wasn't asked to be a playmaking safety.
I'm taking an impact front seven player over a S all day, irregardless of scheme. When is the last time a S has gone #2 anyway?

The season the Giants beat us in the NFCCG, their d-line was like 6-deep and they were an unmovable wall. That's the 4-3 type model we should be striving for.

And how many of those were 1st rounders? Pierre Paul was but OSI wasn't, Justin Tuck wasn't.

Now do they win the SB without Eli because they took a de over him? Maybe they don't have the cap room for Plaxico now.

None of the QB's in this draft have Eli Manning level talent. None of them are worth a top 10 pick.

That remains to be seen.

When the two best QBs in league history are 6th and 3rd round picks...it's clearly not all about where people think they SHOULD go.

I don't care about getting high draft grades after the draft. I care about getting high draft grades 10 years from now.
