Draft order thread

Bears locked in to #3 is VERY interesting.

They could trade up with the Browns to get their QB. No way do they risk letting the Niners take one.

What is the current draft order after today's games?

Which leaves Garrett for us. I'm perfectly fine with that. We have a ton of holes to fill. FA should help with that but when you have as many holes as we do, reaching for a QB at #2 isn't the best idea. Next year is a better class supposedly and we will be picking near the top once again because we have so many holes to fill that just can't happen in one offseason. Look at Philly and LA. Both traded the world to reach for QBs and they were both more talented than us. Wentz got Philly 1 more victory. Goff and the Rams were worse this year. Both were reaches. We need talent, period

If that's the case, are the Niners better off trading down for a lower 1st this year and a 1st next year? If they did that, they could package both 1sts next year to move up...?

No way does anyone trade up to #1 for a QB this year. If there's a trade to #1, it will be for Garrett. Doubt anyone wants to trade with us either if Garrett is off the board.

I don't understand how people think a team without a QB can have any priority other than getting a QB. Until you have a settled starter at QB your team is irrelevant. No matter how good a pass rusher you have. That's just the reality or the modern nfl.

But you don't know who they like at QB or if at all. I bet they go Jonathan Allen then QB in the 2nd.

If you don't have a QB, and you have the 2nd pick, you have no excuse for not coming away with a guy you want at QB. If you can get that guy at the top of the 2nd round, then great. But you cannot gamble on them being there and then miss out.

None of these guys are as good as Goff or Wentz and Garrett is better than any of the non-QBs last year. Not to mention, there are 3-4 QBs who are similarly rated (4 would be Josh Allen) who could be picked in the top 15.

Why give up a ton of draft picks to move up to 1 when you have a good shot at getting whichever QB you want at 3 or 4 or a very similarly ranked QB if not?

Teams that need a QB at the top of the draft like the 49ers, Bears, and Jets will have options at 2, 3, and 5 not to mention the option of bringing in Tyrod Taylor if he's cut or trading for Garapollo.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the Browns drafting a QB first overall (hoping for this), but I can't see them trading the pick to someone else who wants a QB if there's an obvious top QB prospect. I also think Garrett is worth more than any of the QBs this year, so a team trading up would have to outbid teams trading up for Garrett.

The Browns have a 2nd first round pick they can use on a QB. If they don't see a huge difference between Trubisky, Kizer, Watson, and Allen, they can use their first pick on the BPA and their 2nd pick on a QB.

We see teams that need QBs pass on QBs with their first pick every year. You don't build a successful team by reaching for need in the draft - if there's no QB worth the pick, you don't draft a QB at that spot. The Browns, 49ers, Bears, and Jets aren't all going to take QBs in the top 5 just because they need one. That's especially true when there are other options in later rounds, in free agency (Tyrod Taylor potentially), or through a trade (Jimmy Garapollo).

Yes, QB is a priority for several teams, but that doesn't mean they'll take all non-QBs off the board for their first pick.

I actually agree with you in regard to the overall ratings of this year's QBs (though I think they're all better prospects than Goff).

That said -- I think you're discounting the fact that every year a team falls in love with a QB for whatever reason. It happens all the time.
