Size is important esp. these days. Carolina's WR are flat out never covered. When playing teams like Seattle who are allowed to prison-rape you from start to finish and even after the play, you better have some of your own physicality or you're dead in the water. It's been a LONG time since we've had a WR who can "push back."

Not true. You can mitigate their size and physicality by spreading them out, using motions, stacks, bunches, wings, etc.. Not to mention short-area quickness is their kryptonite.

You think Edelman and Amendola beat them with physicality? Lol the way you beat tall, stiff cornerbacks is by forcing them to open their hips, change direction and move laterally, and that's exactly what Belichick forced Seattle's big corners to do with a bunch of 5'8" midget WRs.

Rewatch the game vs Seattle in the playoffs. A lot of bunches, stacks, motions, etc. Shanny knows.

On site a note, this play really demonstrates that genius of Shanny's play design and the importance of having a running back that can run routes and catch. He runs flood concept with the RB running the corner route out of the backfield. Don't see that too often.

Agree with you both. Physicality/size is a need.. Shan had Julio and Sanu who are both big. But there are ways to beat big stiff corners without big WRs - The Patriots, but even they have Gronk

yeah, Shanahan's offense is something to marvel at.. I love it and it's unpredictable nature

You beat me to it. Gronk, Julio and Sanu more than did their damage but their physicality also helps open routes for all the other chess pieces. When Kyle has them all, he knows what to do with them! It's a beautiful thing to watch! The one piece Kyle is missing with us right now is that Julio (Garcon is really our Sanu) or Gronk. I have a feeling he'll want to complete that chess piece. Checkmate!

The more I watch this game again, the more I realize how important having a running back that can catch out of the backfield is heading into the draft. One of our top needs. It is integral to his offense.

Kyle killed the Seahawks with Coleman and Freeman out of the backfield.

Freeman=Kareem Hunt, Coleman=Jamaal Williams

So true! Welcome back WCO! Hyde, Juice and a change-of-pace back are going to be epic in the passing game.
How about we draft Engram and just make him a WR.

On measurables alone he's a giant WR with sturdy weight.

Njoku (TE) in the 2nd
Kamara (RB) in the 3rd
Henderson (WR) in the 4th

We get our Jimmy Graham, Devonta Freeman, and our Randall Cobb in one draft. Draft is filled with defensive talent so we should be able to get good value talent in the later rounds.

Two of the guys you've listed, Njoku and Kamara, are in multiple first-round mocks. I also don't know if Henderson lasts until the 4th, but that's probably the most realistic out of the bunch.

Yeah you're right but it will be nice. Wishful thinking that's all. Lol

You like Marlon Mack in this offense? the more I watch, the more I think he'd be a terrific fit. Great change of pace for Hyde too.
If we hold off on a tall ZWR til a later round, a few guys I like:
Kenny Golladay

Ishmael Zamora (ATHLETE!) wait for it.. red flag, character issues

Michael Clark (Could be a steal of the draft or UDFA, just one year of college football - he's raw)

Josh Malone
Sleeper RB that can catch the ball really well.
I give you NC State RB Matthew Dayes.

"Averaged just 1.8 yards after initial contact over last two seasons." - from his draft profie.. I like his game from the highlight tape, but he's small at only 5'9", didn't run the 40 at the combine either so I don't have a speed analysis. His size is his biggest problem, great field vision though. He just goes down almost immediately on contact.

I think we got one of those guys with our $5 million dollar FB.
