The Indianapolis Colts' record fell to 2-4 on Sunday after a 26-20 loss to the previously winless Tennessee Titans, and veteran defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is growing increasingly frustrated with the team's struggles.
Following the loss, Buckner made his frustration clear to reporters, saying, "I'm sick and tired of the same song and dance every year."
His comments quickly sparked speculation that the former San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle might be open to a trade to a more competitive team. That possibility drew even more attention after the Colts fired longtime general manager Chris Ballard.

The 49ers traded Buckner to Indianapolis in 2020, a decision that kept drawing scrutiny as San Francisco struggled to find a consistent replacement at defensive tackle. Injuries have further depleted the team's defensive front this season, fueling speculation that the 49ers could target a defensive lineman before the trade deadline.
Kyle Juszczyk appears to be among those who would welcome a reunion.
The 49ers fullback responded to a social media post featuring Buckner's comments with a simple message: "Come home, [DeForest Buckner]."

Adding a player like Buckner would give San Francisco a significant boost along the defensive line. The veteran has recorded four sacks through six games this season, matching his total from 10 games last year before a neck injury ended his season. His 19 quarterback pressures this season also lead the Colts.
Of course, Juszczyk's public recruiting pitch doesn't mean a reunion is imminent. Any potential deal would depend on the Colts' willingness to move Buckner and the 49ers' ability to work out the financial details.
For now, San Francisco is focused on its Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders as it looks to improve to 6-0. But with Buckner voicing his frustration in Indianapolis and the 49ers dealing with injuries along their defensive front, a reunion remains an intriguing possibility.
If Buckner does become available, Juszczyk has already made it clear that at least one familiar face in San Francisco would love to see him return.
