ESPN and NFL Network combined for an average of 7.7 million viewers for the first round of the NFL Draft, DOWN from 8.1M last year.

Ratings are slipping because its losing focus. All this nonsense like style reporters commenting on the red carpet, the Boston histrionics, etc. I'm watching for the football, not any of this other stuff.

This....the NFL is getting greedy with all these sideshow antics, nobody watches for that s**t, I remember the Draft being really straightforward, player gets picked, talk about that player, another pick gets made, talk about that pick.....etc.....too much circus atmosphere being put in to stretch out the time so it makes everything longer and more tedious in the hopes that it will extend the ratings.

I think splitting it up over several days water's down the fun of it a little bit. It's like splitting up an NFL game into several days.

I agree with this

It was split up last year too.

The explanation for the drop is pretty simple, IMO. Andrew Luck & RGIII vs. Eric Fisher & Luke Joeckel.
Two days is fine but three is overkill. Having round one on the first evening is catering to bandwagon fans who don't look further than the big names...and this year it is really less than exciting. Today is an exciting day but imagine if they had 1st through 3rd on day one then 4th through 7th on day two...those would be really great days! I wonder if it helps or hurts trade chances? Logically, it would be a good thing for GMs to have more time, but there might be more cr*p going on than actual trade talk. Baalke is probably talking to every team in the NFL throwing sand in the air!

Agreed, goodell is f**king things up. I forgot what pick it was but on the screen it said pick was in and it took so long for goodell to announce it. Started going all downhill when they wanted it at 8

I think they are trying to market to a larger audience, which is a huge mistake. Taking away from what makes the draft awesome to try and reach a larger demographic is going to spread it too thin for hardcore fans. It's bad enough that they stretched it into 3 separate days.

I agree.....splitting up the 3rd and the latter rounds to me is a big mistake. Not even many of the diehard's watch the later rounds, in this day of smartphones most people just look at their little ESPN Mobile app or whatever as it updates the picks, when you had the 3rd as a lead in, people would linger on for the 4th....etc. Not sure how they can garner any decent ratings, even for a Saturday.
Go niners, come on FO.... Let's nail these next 2 rpounds

Guy is one of the most obvious, and blatant headcases ever. I do not understand the want for this guy on this board at all. Do not want.

Agreed, "Honey Booger" === PROBLEMS

We didn't draft Coby last year and let Konrad walk. Don't thing Ertz is the pick, just a hunch cause his blocking skill is lacking.

Ertz is the best blocker of the three, but I would not be surprised if we took Kelce instead (better blocker, otherwise comparable skill set and athleticism)

Kelce is more athletic and has a better body.
