Unless Raye plans to use him as a slot receiver, motioning in and out of the backfield, then the pick is a waste. I' don't think Raye has the vision to do this. Meanwhile, if the niners drafted Bulaga and then Iupati they would have one the best run blocking lines in the league. That fits better with Singletary's and Raye's personalities.

If Raye were going to be around for the next ten years, you might be persuading me.

He's not.

Heck, I don't think Iron Mike is going to be around for the next ten years, and I've got nothing against him other than 8 and 8.

A young, speedy. break away back just might be around for the next ten years, and productive for most of that. We must improve our O-line that draft, but Coffee and Robinson are not the change of pace that a better-than-Sproles back like Spiller can provide. Spiller at thirteen (but remember, he won't be there, so you may get your scenario anyway), and best available OT for our 16/17 pick.

Well Iron Mike isn't on the hot set. 7-9 as interm, 8-8 as full time. It's mc's butt on the line and if he thinks drafting 2 oline in the first then he will do it. But remember Joe staley is his only first round pick for oline.

Raye has shown that he knows how to get his playmakers the ball. Vernon Davis, Crabtree, and Gore all had pretty solid years under him. He may not seem very creative, but he also got those guys to perform. Alex Smith also had his best statistical season under him and with only 10 games. I have called him out for his lack of creativity, but I would be a hypocrite to not at least acknowledge that he got the playmakers the ball.

I think adding a guy like Spiller will automatically open up Raye's creativity. Screens, "tazer" with Spiller and Gore both on the field, reverses, etc. The Niners do not have that kind of speed on offense to be that creative. Spiller would help with that.
The pick for worst offensive draft pick ever is an easy one. In 1989 the Green Bay Packers selected Tony Mandarich with the second overall selection over Barry Sanders:

We can not make that same type of mistake based on need vs. pure talent.
Not that I disagree, but did u just compare spiller to sanders?? No one knows for sure what any player will do in the pros, remember bush is the next sayers?
As one of the biggest Spiller fans on this board, you just need to know one thing:

NOBODY compares to Barry Sanders. NOBODY.

Agreed. Looking at Barry's video is like watching poetry in motion. But the point remains valid. Never draft need over talent and Spiller offers Barry Sander's type of game breaking ability.

Let's see. Bush has a ring, has contributed and is hands down a better overall playmaker than anyone on the 49ers. Mandrich has nothing. If the 49ers had Bush, they would have been a play-off team. So what are you saying?????

Wow, its so rare I bust out the Barry Sanders highlights. They are simply jaw dropping. That got me thinking: best highlight reel team of all time. Not best football players or winners. I'm not talking about Joe Montana style clutch highlights. I'm talking physical freak, stop and say wow whether its the first quarter of the 4th type of players. Any takers on a starting offense?

I'll start:

starting RB and team MVP is Barry Sanders.
