Huh? He's been playing well in LA

His ratings since the trade are roughly the same as Cassius Marsh except for a slight uptick in pass rush. With Marsh's performance yesterday, they may now be about the same.

Fowler is a passing-down player, not a three down player. With all the other talent surrounding him, he should be much more impactful than he has.

Over-estimated potential. I can't see any team giving him very much next year.

Yeah, I wanted Lynch to trade for him but looks like it was a smart move.
I put this in the John Lynch thread too.

"Kyle Shanahan indicated the #49ers considered trading for DE Dante Fowler at the deadline, but said Fowler being in the last year of his contract was the key factor in deciding not to."

We could target Fowler in free agency.

Interesting. The first I've heard of this. Maybe he'll be a target. It's just
More evidence that Lynch and Kyle are really concerned with upgrading the pass rush. That's promising.

Agreed. Like they are looking at all possible options available

Anything is possible. As to Fowler, it would all depend on his asking price. He isn't a premier edge rusher and should not get paid like one. If he were to agree to a moderate ($7M) base and a heavily incentive laden contract with a small guarantee, then he might be coming here. Can't see Marathe spending much cash on the guy.

They'll make a run at him, I'm sure. But Fowler "playing well" in LA is relative. He's been playing well...for Fowler. Not for the level of edge rusher we need. Don't know how much he helps this team. He may be better than Marsh -- but that's not saying much. Fowler wouldn't offer much above replacement. Would imagine a mid round pass rush specialist could offer the same value to the team on the field.

This board loves to use the "wait til he gets help" excuse.

Has anybody in the NFL has more "help" than Fowler? This dude is a 6-7 sack guy through and through. It's fine. But he's not a guy who takes your defense to the next level.

Yup. He had help in Jacksonville and in LA. I'd say he will have the least amount of help he's ever had if he came to the 49ers.

He has fewer sacks and QB hits on the season than Marsh. I think he does a decent job of getting pressure, even if he doesn't always get home but if he's looking for $10 million+, screw that noise. He's playing with Donald and Suh and played with Campbell and others in Jacksonville and he's never really been great, solid #2 edge rusher. Donald is taking up constant double teams, still getting through while Suh and Fowler have been inconsistent at best.

You absolutely NAILED it!
Thoughts on Ray??

What will he cost and will he be worth it??
How has he done with the Rams since they acquired him?

Phoenix summed it up well, IMO.
