I keep hearing and seeing Rams fans say that the Rams will be getting third round compensatory picks for Suh and Cooks should they walk after one year....like it makes the deal(s) easier to swallow because they will get compensated this way. This true?

Depends if they sign any UFAs to offset the comp picks that they would get if Suh/Cooks leave.

The text below, is from an article at NFC West Power Division, on the Brandin Cooks trade …
"I just want to go over my pros and cons of the recent trade the Rams had with the Patriots.
Patriots gave up Brandin Cooks and 4th rd draft pick for Rams 1st round draft pick at 23rd
and a 6th rd as well.
Rams reportedly wanted Cooks last year as well they didn't have a 1st rd pick so Saints ended up going with Patriots but the reports
came out Rams were willing to trade Trumaine Johnson for him. Sammy Watkins was the backup plan so McVay is really high on Brandin Cooks.
Pros of the trade
Officially replaced Watkins with a faster and more proven player 3 seasons in a row with over 1000 yards and 7 td.
Chemistry for the team he's not a distraction. Jared Goff and him share the same agent and they have been working
out together already in the offseason. Cooks was a first round talent picked by the saints 20th overall and out of 4
seasons he's proved to be the number 1 deep threat in the league. Cooks is from California so being closer to home
may help him want to stay long term.
Cons of the tradeThe
Upcoming cap space can be an issue.
This year draft Rams don't pick tell the 3rd round 87th overall but on the bright side Rams still have 4 picks in the first
4 rounds just 3 are in the 4th round. So big day that day for the team. He only has this year left on his contract so getting
a deal long term could be trouble some".
