So here are the guys we no longer have to worry about: (12 Players)
Re-signed - Justin Smith
Cut - Tukuafu, Morrah, Tolzien, Hall, Hawkins, Collie, Osgood, Wallace, McBath (Injury Settlement)
Traded - Parys Haralson, Cam Johnson

Leaves Us With:
Possibly Back: Boldin, Wilhoite, Dawson, Brown, Cox, Asomugha, Williams/Manningham/Moore (Probably 1 of 3)
Unlikely Back: McCoy, Dobbs, Whitner, Goodwin, Dixon, Brock, Wright

Boldin should be back as long as we can afford his asking price. Dawson should be back if he does well, he should take a low amount to stay here since he wants to be here. Brown will depend on if he wants to win or get paid. I see 1 (maybe 2) of Cox/Asomugha/Brock back. For the WRs I see either Williams, Manningham or Moore signing, not all 3 and unlikely 2 either. Wilhoite should be back for cheap. I see McCoy, Dobbs and Whitner as highly unlikely to return. Goodwin and Dixon are small possibilities but I think we move on and get younger.

This would be be my plan below.

Restructure Vernon Davis, extend him thru 2018.
Restructure Carlos Rogers or cut him
Retain Anquan Boldin
Retain Mario Manningham
Retain Phil Dawson
Extend Kap
Extend Culliver
See Brooks' base decrease by around $1M
Restructure Gore, exted a few seasons thru 2016.

Look into easy extensions for Hunter, Miller, and Kilgore, easy 3-4 yr deals, worth around $1M-$2M a yr, depended on the player.

2015 offseason comes.

We tag either Crabs or Iupati
Extend Aldon(If not sooner)
Retain Dorsey
Retain Skuta
Extend Spillman

Have the roster something like this in 2015 offseason

QB Kaepernick - Signed thru 2018
QB Daniels - signed thru 2016
RB Gore - signed thru 2016
RB Hunter - signed thru either 2017 or 2018
RB James - Signed thru 2015
FB Miller - signed thru ether 2017 or 2018
FB Debniak - Signed thru 2015 (EFA after 2015)
WR Crabtree- Franchised
WR Patton- Signed thru 2016
WR Boldin - Signed thru 2016 or 2017 (2 or 3 year deal)
WR Manningham - Signed thru 2017
TE Davis - Signed thru 2018
TE Mcdonald - signed thru 2016
C Kilgore - Signed thru ether 2017 or 2018
LG Iupati - Either Tagged if Crabs isn't, or extended, or let go in FA
LG/C Looney - Signed thru 2015
RG Boone - Signed thru 2015 (Would be extended in 2015)
LT Staley - Signed thru 2017 (Salary Reduction/Extension candidate)

DE McDonald - Signed thru 2015 (Extension possible)
DE Carradine - Signed thru 2016
DE Dial - Signed thru 2016
NT Williams - Signed thru 2015
NT/DE Dorsey - Signed thru 2017 (extra 3 years on top of deal running out in 2014, Could replace Justin or Mcdonald depended on play)
OLB Aldon - Signed thru 2019 or 2020
OLB Brooks - Signed thru 2018
OLB Lemonier - Signed thru 2016
OLB Skuta - Signed thru 2016
ILB Willis - Signed thru 2016 (Extension possible)
ILB Bowman - Signed thru 2018
ILB Moody - Signed thru 2016
ILB Fleming - Signed thru 2015 (RFA after 2015)
CB Culliver - Signed thru 2019
FS Reid - Signed thru 2016 (Option for 2017)
FS Spillman - Signed thru 2018
SS Dahl - Signed thru 2015
K Dawson signed thru 2015 (2 yr deal in 2014)
P Lee - Signed thru 2018
LS McDermott - Signed thru 2015 (RFA in 2016)

These are just rough guesses.

Some guys who may see extensions are Wilhoite, he is a EFA after 2013, and RFA after 2014. Cox, a RFA after 2013, would depend on how well he does. I would extend him thru 2016

If Asomougha is back, 1 yr deal, 2 max.

As for 2014 FAs,

Let McCoy, Dixon, Williams, Moore, Dobbs(If not sooner), Goodwin, Brock, Wright(Maybe back at minimum), Brown(Too costly), Whitner.

AB, do you know what kind of contract our free agents would need to sign to bring us compensatory picks?

Needs to be more than 1 or 2 yr deals. Usually in the $3M and up average range. I think $8M is a 3rd or 4th rd pick. Goldson should bring us a 3rd or 4th. Also depends on playing time, and stats.

Update After Week 8:
Very likely Moore, Asomugha, McCoy, Williams, Dobbs, Goodwin and Dixon will be gone. Some of those guys could be gone in the next few weeks with cuts.

Cox can be tendered at 1.4 million; might be worth it if he is our PR/KR too but not sure if he is just 4th or 5th CB. Wilhoite should be re-signed for cheap. Brock's price keeps going up and if he keeps it up some team might offer him more than they should. I'm a little worried this is a contract year thing and he could regress even though I have been a fan of his from the get go. Boldin I see coming back on a 1 year 5 mil or so deal. Maybe 2 yrs 8-9 million. Manningham could be back for cheap if he stays healthy and produces well the rest of the season. Dawson should be back for 1 more year for dirt cheap if he does well the rest of the season. Wright will depend on how he does but he should be back for cheap next year with Brown, Rogers (cut), Brock and Cox being FAs. Could use a vet if Brown leaves and Rogers refuses to take a cut. Whitner I would re-sign him for 1 year 3-3.5 million or so and draft someone he can mentor. If he wants a long term big money I'd move on. Brown will depend on if he wants to win or get paid and since he has been underpaid for like 6 years now wouldn't blame him if he chose to get paid. Hopefully he sees what happened to Goldson and learns from his mistake.

Remaining FAs to be:

QB McCoy- Gone
FB Marecic- Maybe, depends on if Dixon is gone, hope so
FB Dixon- Gone
WR Manningham- Stays, IF he comes back strong, and plays well(Praying for it, we need WR depth for 2013 and beyond)
WR Boldin- Stays, Keep him at all costs IMO. He is our best WR, even better than Crabs.
WR Williams- Gone
WR Moore- Gone
WR/ST Osgood- Back after Week 1 is possibility like 2013
TE/DE Dobbs- Gone, maybe sooner, would cost near $1.4M to tender as RFA
C Goodwin- Gone, need a replacement
ILB Wilhoite- Stays on EFA tender of $570,000
CB Cox- Stays on RFA tender of $1.4M ish. And should be our PR/KR.
CB Asomougha- Gone right now, needs to turn it around to stick
CB Brock- Probably stays, but we should get better at CB than Brock.
CB Wright- Stays, if Maiocco is correct, he will compete as a Starter, with Rogers cut or pay cut. Cut is more likely.
CB Brown- Gone, will cost too much, not worth what CBs have been getting on open market, wont and wouldn't overpay.
SS Whitner - Toss Up, I'd keep on 2yr deal, cheap, to teach a rookie the ropes. If he wants a lot, say bye bye.
PK Dawson- Needs to be consistent, his 71 yarder isn't a big deal, no one will make that, was a free kick for the heck of it. I'd keep, and draft someone to challenge him.

Potential cut(s):

OG Snyder- We can do better at OG/OT, we need a true Swing OT, Kinda miss Leoanrd Davis, did well for us, but was old.
CB Rogers- Makes too much

Possible Restructures/Extensions:

QB Kaepernick- Extension, between $65-$90M depended on either 4 or 6 year deal
RB Gore- Restructure/Add on 2 more years
RB Hunter- Extension
FB Miller- Extension
WR Crabs - Extension, doubtful I know, wouldn't pay him what Maiocco reported, $11-$12M a yr.
TE Vernon- Restructure/Extension, need to keep our 1-2 tandem of Davis/McDonald together Maybe thru 2018
C Kilgore- Extension, Only if he is the Center of the future
DE McDonald- Restructure/Extension, add on a few years past 2015, maybe thru 2019 or 2020, need to keep a vet when Justin retires in 2915 most likely.
NT/DE Dorsey- Extension(Probably in 2015 though, I love his play, keep him)
OLB Aldon- Extension, reasonable deal. Near $50M if he comes back clean, and stays out of trouble, add in clauses for DUI, DWI, etc...
OLB Brooks- Restructure to help with cap, not a must, his deal may de-escalate. Maybe $1M-$1.5M downwards if he doesn't get 12 sacks.
OLB Skuta(Not till 2015 for an extension)
ILB Willis- Extension, but not till April when allowed. Sign thru 2017 or 2018. These depend on the players wants to stay, and how to structure FAs to be in future years, dont want too many to be a problem
CB Culliver- Extension as soon as possible, need to lock up our best young CB.

Eventually the following will happen.

Option or Extension for Eric Reid(2015 is date to be picked up for option and extension)
Extend McDermott, especially if he keeps it up, playing well
Some others, Carradine, Dial, Lattimore, Patton, Daniels should get extensions, not till 2016 though. Lattimore will likely be a RFA as he won't accrue a year this year.
Of course draft picks in future.

Maybe

RB James- Needs to prove to be a Sproles or Returner
LG Looney- Needs to show something for me to say keep him. Either Center of future if not Kilgore, or primary 6th or 7th OL on game days.

All in all, we have work to do once 2013 is over, and maybe sooner. Maybe in November for Vernon, he may extend then. Like he redid his deal last year.

But dont worry, we are good for the cap. Moves will be made, and we will keep our core players together.
Brock needs to be re-signed!
Brock just became a whole bunch more expensive to hold on to.
Brown, Smith, I want to see them, really good these people.
Possibly Re-sign: Brown, Boldin, Brock, Manningham, Dawson, Wright, Wilhoite, Cox, Osgood
Let Go: Williams, McCoy, Dobbs, Dixon, Goodwin, Whitner

A few less guys to re-sign with Moore,Asomugha and Williams gone. I think we will try to re-sign Brown but he will go elsewhere for more money. Boldin might want more than we can give him. Manningham might not be back because we won't offer him much at all and this isn't a good team for WRs. Brock's could get a big offer from a bad team. Should re-sign him now before his price goes up. Wright, Dawson, Wilhoite, Cox and Osgood should come back real cheap if we want them back.

And we might have more money than we expected to work with for the 2013 FA's because right now Kaepernick, Aldon, Iupati, Hunter and Culliver's prices are dropping for after 2014's free agency. If we took a look at the 2014 FA's I'd re-sign Miller, Kilgore and maybe Hunter for cheap this offseason. Culliver as well but he might cost more. Then between the big guys depending on what he wants and how he does the rest of the year I'd pay Crabtree before Iupati, Aldon and Kaepernick. Might have to see how those last 3 do in 2014 but very well could tag one of them and let them go after 2015. Just not sure I'd give Aldon and Kaepernick big money and Kap hasn't really earned it this year. Aldon we will have to see how he handles himself of the field. As for Iupati would like to have him back but if he gets greedy and wants over like 35 million I move on. Could easily move Boone to LG if we wanted and draft a RG which is easiest to fill. Won't go into any more depth since it's a ways away but Dorsey and Skuta will be free agents after 2014 as well. They will be after thoughts though with the big names we will have to take care of.

Still think the 49ers should draft an NT to fill that spot long-term, both Dorsey and Williams are on short term deals.

Yeah I know I was talking about after 2014 free agents along with Culliver, Miller, Hunter, Aldon, Crabtree, Iupati and Kap. I'll clear that up.

Not sure Williams is the answer at NT. Dorsey has been solid but might have to draft another one depending on what they think of Dial.

Re-sign Brock, Wright, drop Rogers. Franchise Whitner. Draft a franchise wr (See Marqise Lee), starting caliber CB buried on the depth chart (See Jaylen Watkins), mid round safety to groom (See Nickoe Whitley), mid round monster Tackle/Guard (see Morgan Moses). 2014- Extend Aldon, Kap, Crab. Let Iupati go.

You had me until that. Don't see us paying Whitner like 7 mil. Last year's price for franchising a S was this: $6,916,000 and I think it goes up each year.
Yeah, doubt Whitner would be tagged. He could be brought back at his current rate, and I'd be fine with that.
Whitner is having a very good season BUT not for that kind of jack.
