3/18 Update
Re-sign: Osgood (1 yr Vet Min)
Work On Extensions: Kap, Crabtree, Miller, Culliver | Add A Few Yrs: Skuta? Dorsey? Spillman? Hunter?
I don't think Osgood will have much heat so we might wait and see how the draft and FA plays out. As for next year's FAs with Aldon we will use the 5th year option for 2015 so no hurry to extend him. I think Miller should be the next to extend at 3-4 years at 2-2.5 per. Culliver we are about to start talks with and we can get him and Miller for about 1/2 if we take a leap of faith with them coming off injuries compared to if they performed well this year and then we re-signed them. I think Culliver will be around 4 years 16-20 mil or 5 year 20-22 mil. Kap will be a long process; don't expect him to be re-signed before Rogers 6.6 mil comes onto the cap June 2. Hopefully we start on Crabtree soon but might be into the season before we start him. Skuta, Dorsey, Spillman and Hunter will probably be towards the end of this season or after it. Iupati doesn't seem like it will get done but we have almost a year to work on it.

Just my thoughts on the free agents after this year. You can put who you would re-sign and let go. You can say how much you would pay and for how long. You can talk about who you would extend (after 2015 fa's) if you like as well. Make a list and add your reasoning if you wish.
Crabtree, Culliver, Gore, Iupati, Hunter, Cox, Cook, Wilhoite, TJE, Dobbs, J.Johnson, Gabbert, Lloyd, Skuta, Celek, Tukuafu, K.Nelson, Osgood
Possibly Re-Sign
Michael Crabtree - Number one priority by far. We can probably live without him with Boldin and Johnson for a few years but with our track record for WR's once Boldin leaves we would probably be in trouble. Hopefully he will take 5 years 45 mil or less but I could see 5 years 50-55 mil.
Chris Culliver - Once his legal troubles are cleared I think we re-sign him. We were on our way before he got in trouble. Sign him now while he's cheap like with Brock. If we wait and he does well this year he could look for 5 years 25-35 mil instead of 5 years 15-20 now.
Frank Gore - If he would take a 1 year 2-4 mil team friendly deal we might be able to use him for 1 more year. I can see him going out and signing a 2-3 year deal worth 4-5 per with another team. I'd hate to see that but depending on how Hyde and Lattimore play we might not need him long term. Also, depends on if Hunter is re-signed.
Mike Iupati - Depends on what he wants and if they think they can re-sign Boone long term. I think there is a chance neither re-sign and we go with Looney/Thomas/rookie. Boone and Iupati are probably looking for 40-50 and are 30-35 million dollar players.
Kendall Hunter - Depends if Gore is re-signed and how the other players do. We should be able to get him cheap now after back to back injuries. I'm not sure I trust him long term though. A lot of questions with the RB corps... Hunter/Gore back? Will Lattimore play and if so how? James is likely gone after this year or before.
Perrish Cox and/or Chris Cook - I think we will re-sign whoever plays better. Unlikely we sign both. We will need the vet depth so look for us to sign one for anywhere from 1-2 years at a say 1-3 mil per.
Michael Wilhoite (RFA) - I think Borland is the #3 of the future. If Borland takes over maybe Wilhoite is cut when Bowman gets back. If not Moody is probably gone. He should be cheap to re-sign it's a matter of do we want him, Moody, Skov or a drafted players as the future #4 ILB.
Kyle Nelson - If he does well then we should re-sign him long term for cheap. If not maybe we can get back McDermott.
Don't Re-Sign
Josh Johnson/Blaine Gabbert - I doubt we re-sign either one of these guys. I hope we draft a QB in round 2/3 to be backup of the future.
Brandon Lloyd - Could be back next year but likely 1 year solution. Hopefully Ellington/Patton step up and make him expendable.
D.Dobbs/Tony Jerod-Eddie(ERFA) - Hopefully we draft an upgrade over these guys. Nice UDFA fines but time to get younger/cheaper.
Dan Skuta - Hopefully Lynch and Lemonier make this guy expendable but I could see him being back if those 2 don't step up.
Will Tukuafu - Millard will replace him and be an upgrade. Not sure why we even put Tukuafu on the IR should have just cut him.
Garrett Celek - Hopefully Carrier is an upgrade over him or we draft an upgrade. Not a big deal if we do or don't.
Kassim Osgood - Hopefully by next year a bunch of the young guys step up on ST and we don't have to devote a roster spot for a WR who averages 3 catches a year. He was good last year and I welcome him this year (especially with Spillman/Ventrone gone) but I hope this is the last year we need him.
Work On Extensions (After 2015 FA's)
Aldon Smith - He could be cheaper now but we might wait until the end of 15 to make sure he doesn't get in any more trouble.
Vernon Davis - He might cost to much for us but at worst we can tag him for 2 years. I doubt McDonald makes him expendable but him playing well would help.
Alex Boone? Ian Williams? Joe Looney? Jonathan Martin? - Aldon and Vernon are the priority to extend. Boone as well if he will take a reasonable amount but I doubt it. Williiams, Looney and Martin aren't a big deal and don't need to be extended yet unless we want to.
Rest of After 2015 FAs (No Need To Extend): Ray McDonald, Phil Dawson, Craig Dahl, LaMichael James, Derek Carrier, Chuck Jacobs
Potential Restructures
Steve Johnson - He will make 6.025 and 6.125 the next 2 years. If he doesn't do well this year (making 3.9 mil) he will likely be asked to restructure or be cut. I hope he would choose to restructure to stay on a good team after so many bad years at Buffalo.
Craig Dahl - He will make 1.933 mil next year and we can save 1.7 by cutting him (233k dead money) so there is no way he makes the team on that salary. Even if he takes a cut down to around 1 mil he still could be cut before the season.
Ahmad Brooks - We have him signed through 2017 but don't expect him to be with us that year. We can cut him and save 7.8 mil with only 848k in dead money. That's a long ways away so by then we should have Lynch/Lemonier or another rookie ready to replace him. 2015 he is making almost 9.648 mil and 2016 9.698 mil so we could see him restructure for 2015, 2016 and 2017. As for 2015 we can save 4.1 with 5.5 dead money so don't expect us to cut him then. 2016 is a little more likely with 6.5 saved with 3.2 mil dead. So 2016 he could be gone but 2017 he will likely be gone if he doesn't restructure. He's an important player for us but not at 9.5 mil a year especially if Lynch or Lemonier step up.
What I Would Do:
I re-sign Crabtree and Culliver. I would re-sign Gore for a year if cheap enough, let Hunter go. I let Boone and Iupati go if they want 40-50 mil, if they can get to 30-35 I might extend Boone but probably not both. I re-sign either Cox or Cook, possibly Wilhoite, Skuta and Nelson. Everyone else I let go. Look into Aldon and Vernon and see what they want. Davis we might be better off to tag for 2 years and then let go that would put him at 34/35 years old (32 before contract up). Depends on what he wants. Aldon not sure what to do with him have to make sure he is changed and doesn't get into any more trouble. He's looking at a 75-100 mil deal and not sure I give him that. Maybe instead we extend Vernon and tag Smith for 2016 2017 and go from there. As for restructures I wouldn't bother to restructure Dahl he wouldn't make my team next year anyways. Johnson I'd ask to get to around 4 mil for the next 2 years to stay apart of the team or he might be cut (0 dead money). Brooks I'd like to see go from 9.5 to even 7 mil year, either way he's probably only with us 2014, 2015 and maybe 2016 and then we move on with Lynch/Lemonier/rookie.
Crabtree, Culliver, Gore, Iupati, Hunter, Cox, Cook, Wilhoite, TJE, Dobbs, J.Johnson, Gabbert, Lloyd, Skuta, Celek, Tukuafu, K.Nelson, Osgood
