2011 49ers Free Agents - Be Ready!!!

Originally posted by Gore_21:
Enjoy this year because after this season we will have to deal with having 14 free agents (7 current starters). This next offseason will be the toughest one in a long time. Recently, we haven't had many big free agents to worry about and that kind of goes along with not having great players. We can't keep all of them. Hopefully we sign the right ones and possibly tag one of them (assuming the CBA is intact) to keep as many as possible. What are your thoughts?

Alex Smith - Depends on the season but hopefully he resigns cheap if we want him
Vernon Davis - Should be signed first and foremost
Dashon Goldson - I'd prefer to resign him, Reggie has looked good but injury prone
Aubrayo Franklin - I think he goes elsewhere, hopefully RJF will be ready
Manny Lawson - If he doesn't lower demand he is probably gone
Ray McDonald - Sign for cheap... should compete with Soap for LDE
Takeo Spikes - Sign for vet min. as leader for Bowman, possibly starter

David Baas - Unless we see him as future at C no need to resign
Tony Wragge - Versatile vet but unless he signs for min. we probably can't resign
Karl Paymah - Could live without resigning... we will see how he does this year
Demetric Evans - Probably gone after this year
Brian Westbrook - Probably gone after this year... Dixon should be ready
Barry Sims - Probably gone or just let walk since he would be 36 next season
Jason Hill - Probably gone anyways

Please correct me if you see someone who isn't on here or shouldn't be on here.

I would resign all of the bolded.

We need Nate to agree to it, so, im hoping it happens.

Say Troy plays like he has the rest of the year and we re-sign him. Hopefully he would stick with us since we gave him a shot. Wonder what it would cost us? Shouldn't be too much and hopefully it wouldn't be too long of a deal. We should have some money to spend if Smith leaves, Goldson leaves, Franklin possibly, and the rest of those guys.

The guys I would consider re-signing would come in under the 55 mil I think you said we have to work with. Set aside a little for draft picks... I think we had 7 on the list, probably wouldn't leave a whole lot left for other team's free agents. Then again Spikes, McDonald, Wragge and Baas shouldn't cost too much. Lawson/Franklin could cost a bit and Troy who knows???

Things change quickly though... by the end of the year we could have a whole new set of priorities.

For 2012 we have:
Frank Gore
Ahmad Brooks
Joe Nedney
Josh Morgan
Reggie Smith
Ted Ginn Jr
Chilo Rachal
Cody Wallace
Adam Snyder
Moran Norris
David Carr

By then Gore and Nedney could be at the end of their careers. Not really worried about signing any of those guys. If Gore and Nedney are still playing well I would sign them. Other than that I could live without the rest. Maybe Morgan or Brooks. Half will probably already be off the team by this next year.

pretty much sums it up. Tho Wallace is no longer on the team.

But the main FA is clearly Gore after 2011.

and depending on play, Brooks, Morgan and Ginn.

we are actually llooking at 40M in space. which is enough to get Lawson signed, then McDonald, Baas, Wragge and Spikes.

Leave around 7M for draftees, then rest for FA's, and Troy Smith shouldnt cost more than what Carr got, 3M a yr.

Plus we can always cut or restructure contracts, and save good money.

Why is Wragge still on this team?? He brings absolutely no value. I'd rather keep Snyder.

Do you ever watch 49er games on Sunday? Wragge is probably THE most versatile lineman we have. He can actually play all 5 Oline positions.

I watch every damn game! Besides last Sunday (where he sucked pretty badly BTW), when was the last time he lined up with the offense??

Actually he didnt, and I watch every game, with the Ticket. He looked good at LT, and he is active every game usually. And lines up on goal line situations.
Wragge is a decent valuable backup who can play all 5 positions for dirt cheap. He is a good guy to have around. Guys like that save roster spots. Just because he isn't starting doesn't mean he isn't better than some of the guys we have out there. I think he played in the Seattle game for sure... probably has been some others along the way. Look at Simms who hasn't dressed for a game yet, he could be our starting LT. For the most part it's probably a good thing your backups aren't starting. We really haven't needed Wragge even though he could be an upgrade at one of the positions.

Nicely said Gore_21, My wish is Wragge to be RG, but wont happen, he beter be back in 2011.
I think we are going to let more players walk then we think....I want Ray Macdonald and Manny Lawason resigned. Ray has been unblockable at times this year and needs to be permenent starter over Sopoaga. He is a BEAST!

Ive been waiting for a lineman to blow up the backfield on a running back in a key moment and he did it at a key moment in the game stopping Jackson.
Re Sign Manny Lawson.
Sign Mike Vick
Trade for Fat Ass HaynesWorth a 2012 3rd 2011 5th
Sign John Gruden as HC
Go Back to 4-3
Draft Marvin Austin if we have a low pick.
draft patrick peterson if we have a high pick.
Sign a vet LT and let staley/davit battle it out for RT.

The way you have to look at things is very few positions are "filled". You have to have the mentality of getting better and better at each position each year. Obviously, we can field a team with what we have but other teams are getting better so you have to get better with them or fall behind. I use to think oh, well a guy like Rachal is serviceable so why worry about the position. That only gets you so far with how well your team can be. Things change quickly, players don't perform as expected. You have to always be on your toes. Running the team never ends. Some fans just show up on Sundays or read box scores... others play GM, coach, etc and follow this team day by day including the off season. Kind of a rant but that's the way a GM should think.
