OJ Atogwe to be a FA

Sign Atogwe, release Lewis.

FS: Atogwe/Smith
SS: Goldson/Mays

how can mays be the future as a backup?
We don't need him.

This isn't Madden Football.

BOOM

Atogwe would be better off signing a one year deal with a team that would allow him to start and audition for a contract next season. The 49ers aren't one of those teams.

I said offer, if he has no other takers then he may sign.

its up to him to accept it. He's coming of surgery, so idk if he would want to sign a one year deal and risk injury again.

Currently, Atogwe is sitting on a four year offer from the Rams (cited). Sounds like he's asking for way more than he's worth to the Rams.

The Lions have shown interest (cited), though his demands have apparently scared them away.

If I'm Atogwe, I'd rather take a one year deal in St. Louis or Detroit that would allow me to start than a back up role in San Francisco.

I think he just put down 2 different scenarios.

St. Louis Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe, one of the top available free agents, plans to visit Seattle next week, according to a league source.

A team source, however, said the Seahawks might not be interested in Atogwe.

The one team that has made the hardest push to sign Atogwe is St. Louis, which would like to keep him. Atogwe was the Rams' franchise player last season.

Atogwe has made no free-agent visits since becoming a free agent more than two weeks ago. A shoulder injury landed him on injured reserve in 2009. He also underwent hernia surgery.

Despite playing a shortened season, Atogwe had 74 tackles, three forced fumbles, two interceptions and a sack in 12 games. Atogwe, who will turn 29 years old this month, has 19 interceptions in his five-year NFL career.

Doubt it happens. They just drafted Earl Thomas ( i assume he's starting) who plays FS. Also doubt they'd move Atogwe to SS which he never played in his career. Probably just a Stunt to get the Rams to pay up.

Seahawks say no plans for Atogwe visit

Quote:
The Seattle Seahawks have been rumored to be interested in free agent O.J. Atogwe, but there is no plan for the safety to visit the Northwest at this point, according to ESPN.

Atogwe was drafted in 2005 by the St. Louis Rams and won the team's MVP award in 2008. In five years with the team, he's made 317 tackles and 19 interceptions. Atogwe made $6.34 million as the team's franchise player last year.

Last week, Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo told NFL.com that he was "very hopeful" the team would re-sign Atogwe, saying "Our hope all along was to try and get a deal done with O.J. to keep him on the Rams. We want him to stay here, and I think he wants to be here. It's ongoing and we're very, very hopeful."

Oops my fault.
Im surprised he has barely any interest from teams. Hes easily a top 10 safety

I'm sure he wants a long term big deal and at this time of the year i don't see any owners dumping big money into any players unless they are extending their guys.
Re-signed with the Lambs, per Schefter.

Well I am disapointed in this. I really wanted him to leave the Rams so we didn't have to see him on sundays. He is a good player and deserves the contract, I just wanted it to be with a different team.
