We would have one of the top safety units in the league if we can land Atogwe. We'd finally have great depth at safety. I'm not too sure we'd go after Atogwe though...

I think he may actually land in Chicago. Safety is a need and OJ fits their system more than the Jags system.

I wouldn't mind parting ways with Michael Lewis in favor of Atogwe.
FS: Atogwe/Smith
SS: Goldson/Mays
Let Goldson adjust to the position in his "contract" year and see how he performs. If he struggles like he did earlier in the season, then we can insert Mays or Smith in the starting lineup.

Goldson/Atogwe would be a great safety combination. If the Mays project works as hoped the lesser of that tandem could be traded/released and the other would remain as the FS. With the Mays pick, though, this seems less likely than before.

Never hurts to sign up a good player.
It's just silly to say that because we have an adequate starter at a position we should not look to get another starting caliber player for that position.
The 49ers of the Walsh era would be all over this . . . but we don't think like that any more, it seems.

before the Mays pick I thought OJ was a great possibility now it seems like it doesn't make financial sense.
the 9ers will most likely get an extension done w/Goldston this offseason, that will make 2 young safties including Mays. I just don't see OJ fitting the teams plans.

He is ok but gets burnt a lot and cant tackle for s**t. There is a reason Gore always runs all over them and breaks the long runs and we get big plays from our WR's against them.
