Do we fix the oline in the draft or free agency

Fixed.

Trent Williams or Anthony Davis
Deuce Lutui
Mike Johnson or Mitch Petrus in the 3rd or 4th

I'd prefer a Ryan Clady esque pick and move Staley back to the right side. Unfortunately this tackle class looks kinda mediocre and we're going to have to settle at picking a RT.

Why the sudden hate on Staley from everyone . People complain he's not a mauler in Run blocking and is mediocre/average, but the LT isn't supposed to be the run mauler, the RT is.
FA
If the question contains the word "patch" then FA.

If the question contains the word "fix" then draft.

Ideally a FA signing to get us through and a tackle and at least one guard (one high pick one lower) in the draft.

Fix
Since going primarily to a shotgun formation in the 2nd half of the GB game, Smith has been sacked exactly 1 time (and this is with Sims and Snyder as our tackles).

So in his first 16 quarters of play under a traditional set, he was sacked 13 times...but the last 10 primarily in shotgun, he's been sacked once.

So do we really need to spend a high pick (or big-time free agent $$$) on an OT, or did we just need to make a change in philosophy?

whatever it is we just need to find a way to get push up front and open holes for the running gm. its a combination of both skill and scheme wise. also the oline cant figure out blitz pickups for nothing. its forester's coaching and raye's horrible running schemes that i think is the main problem

both would be nice.

Both, id go with a FA LG and a rookie RT. Then add a later round pick at G and have a battle in camp for the RG position. Wragge, Baas, Snyder, Rookie, Chilo.

we should definitely sign a RG through FA, but signing a RT really depends on the RT crop this offseason. we need a stud RT to protect smith's rollout

Resign Sims, He's been a very good at LT while Staley gone

Resign Baas? Im still undecided, he has been playing better, this decision may depend on what other LG's hit the market
If we can get Mankins, Latui, Sims (sea) or even Colledge, I say let Baas walk

What about RG? Chilo has played poorly almost every game, hes pretty good when we run, but horrible in pass protection, we need a backup that can start if Chilo continues to struggle, Snyder can fill that role for now or maybe even take the job in TC, and throw in a mid round pick like S.Render VT for depth and development

RT...I like Snyder, but i think he is best suited as a backup OT/OG
Target- T.Clabo, Atl or McNeill, SD

My pre-draft 2010 OL...

LT-Staley, B.Sims
LG- R.Sims (sea)
C-Heitmann, Wallace
RG- Chilo, Snyder
RT- Clabo

Going into the draft, we can now grab an OT in later rounds, or maybe we get really lucky and Boone or Barton turn some heads in mini camps and we have our depth already
The Niners have been ignoring the RT for years now, hoping that their stop gap solutions will do the job. The Niners need to upgarde their Oline and pass rush in this draft. I way target a stud RT with their 2nd 1st round pick and be done with it.

Come on Ghost, you know we do, not necessarily just for pass protection, but the run blocking has been horrendous too. Also you know sacks are misleading, the defense's have still been getting pressure.

Every team gets pressure...this is the NFL, not Conference USA. The key is, are we avoiding sacks, getting yardage and scoring points with this new approach? The answer is yes.

Now, we're not running the ball well (especially up the middle), but you really don't think that opposing defenses and their strategy of stopping the run against us has anything to do with that???

I'm not saying we don't need to change personnel, I'm merely saying that there's more to our offensive line issues (especially in the run game) than just bad blocking or a lack of talent. It's never quite that simple.

IDK, I still see our O-line giving up too much pressure. Also if we were soo eager to grab Oher if Crabtree wasn't there last draft, I believe the team believes we still need an OT. I'd rather see if one of the many possible Free agent o-line come here and hopefully be in a position to grab Berry or Hughes or some Defensive help. Our back end of our secondary is puke-ish.

Baas and Wragge are useless, I'm banking on Mankins ASAP.
