also, I guess this finally confirms Nate is mixed with black, I guess we always presumed but he could pass for straight Latino.

And he got into Vernon just as much if not more. If this kid cannot take criticism then he's in the wrong profession. Don't go into Sing allowed this to happen diatribe, nobody on the national level ever mentioned Nate so Sing wasn't doing this to protect Alex and make Nate look incompetent. Its called player evaluation, its the coaches job to know what he has on his roster. All this proved was that Nate is where he currently belongs, at 3rd string.

What Vernon did was straight disrespectful to his coach...and it was in front of his fellow players and fans and camera...

if you want to say Nate was disrespectful to Singletary for messing up a few cals, in front of the fans, teammates, and camera.....then fine....but GOD knows how many times that means Alex has been "disrespectful" with his play.

The bottom line is you dislike Alex and are pulling for Nate so this bothers you. The real issue for you should be the fact that Nate admitted he could of done more. Do you really want a kid starting that isn't putting everything into it....especially at QB?

I don't "dislike" Alex....seems like a cool guy (not a kid anymore) who really wants to prove himself and succeed....what I do have a problem is with how the organization pre-Singletary for years have treated Alex differently than the other players.... I understand his rookie year, and maybe his second....but Nolan AND Singletary have thrown other players under the bus just to baby Alex......I don't think that is professional...let alone fair to his teammates.

so when I see Sing put Nate's business....and it is all hearsay, because Sing kept saying "I think" and nothing was concrete about his assumptions.....and with that, reporters are able to throw any type of BS to go along with Sing's assumptions.

Nolan threw Alex under the bus with his injury. So far Sing hasn't had to say anything bad about Alex...that day may come but so far it hasn't. Sing is obviously doing this for a reason, so let him do it, I'm sure it part of a bigger plan that includes Nate in the long term.

Nolan threw Alex under the bus in almost his last year here.....the rest of the time, everyone else was getting blamed for Alex's play.....

I think that was a P***y thing to do toward the end of his tenure.....and I will call Sing a P***y too if he does the same.

Very good article by Whitlock, it basically says that Nate lacks the work ethic to be great.

I was pulling for Nate as much as anyone on this board, but had no idea about his work ethic or his attitude about things before Sing publicly ripped him. After reading Whitlock's article, I get it now.

I didn't get that he lacks the work ethic at all. What I got is that he lacks the know how to be a professional and must commit himself towards doing the things that makes one a professional in order to maximize his potential.

The message that I got from Sing is that he is essentially telling Davis to take this game as a profession.

Whitlock has follow nate career, I remember reading an article he wrote last year saying that if nate keep learning and doing the right things he would become an d excellent QB in the nfl, he must know what sing is dealing with and I hope Nate can mature rapidly so he can compete with Alex in the coming years...

I think you are missing the point here. Maybe Singletary doesn't get into Alex becuase Alex is there in the offseason putting in time with the coaches and trying to get better while Nate is not? Maybe it has been handled in house and nothing has been accomplished?

I think Singletary sees what Nate can do but gets irritated with him for his lack of commitment. I mean if you see one guy who is busting his tale trying to get better and another guy who is just coasting by on talent alone, who would you yell at?

and where is this Proof....read again what Singletary and Nate have said.

There have been plenty of of articles here on the zone about what Alex Smith has been doing during the off season. Hell even the Monday Night commentators were talking about Alex wanting to know everything Jimmy Raye was thinking.

I tend to believe Jason Whitlock (Ball State alum) and Singletary's assement of Nate Davis than anyone on the zone. They at least know him....

I actually think it was a good move. I dont think singletary said anything that hurt the kid. I think he brought him down to earth. Everyone was high on him calling for him to unseat alex, but making this public was letting nate know he has work. Singletary obviously believes in him because he said "Nate has been working his tail off to learn the offense" that's a compliment you dont make if you are trying to get rid of a kid. He gave him constructive criticism. Nothing wrong w/ that. Honestly, I cannot disagree more with the racial remarks. We really need to get over that, and i'm not trying to anger anyone or get personal, but there is no proof of that and to make that assumption I think is extremely immature.
