As much as I want this awful season to be over with, deep down inside I (like you) am aching for a postseason appearance. Just to have a chance to root for something besides draft picks gives me a fuzzy feeling inside.
With that said, there are going to be a handful of teams that are gonna go head coach shopping after the season is over. Does our making the playoffs diminish our chances of getting one of the top guys this offseason eg Jon Gruden ? You never know how the playoffs will pan out, but even a week behind the rest of the cellar dwellars can cost us big........
So how much can that one week cost us in terms of nabbing the top coach ? Or worse, lets say we go on a miracle run and make the divisonals...
Are we f**ked ?
were screwd, because you just hear york say "well we reach are goal" then proceed to keep the dingle and bust..

Yes.
If we win the West and make the playoff's, Jed looks like a genius for sticking with Sing.
With the upcoming lockout, Denise will have no reason to hire a new coach and pay two coaches to do nothing for a year. Thus, we'll stick with Sing until 2013.

Playoffs or not will have no bearing on that. Having the Yorks will not ony hurt our chances it will kill our chances of getting a top notch coach.

I disagree. I think Jed is a fan first, then an owner. I dont think money will be an issue. My problem is TIME.........if we make the playoffs, we're 1 week behind every other team looking for a head coach. Does that in effect cost us ?

This.
Gah. If only we had Anschutz or Roski running this team.

I wouldnt think so. With the uncertainty of the CBA and a potential lock out moving in, I think teams will be slower to react.
1 week wouldnt make a difference.
If anything, making the playoffs helps are chances, I think a coach [Gruden] would look at this team and say "Hey they made the playoffs in a bad division, if I come in and change some things, we can win for years"

Maybe. There is not much we can do about it. This team is good at winning meaningless games at the end of year and screwing up their draft position and ability to land a good coach. It's not the first time they did that.
Your faith in Jed is misplaced. We have a discount coach with no previous experience and we have no GM. Did I mention no GM. Does this seem like a team that doesn't need a strong GM? Their current front office is discount all the way.

First lets worry about beating St. Louis. Second It will cost us if we want Cower (which I really don'
) because he will likely take Houstin (since the Jobs he prefers are NY Giants, Dolphins, and Texans-- Texans will likely be open) But I think Chucky wants to come back to the bay, in that case I don't think the playoffs would hurt us.

I don't think it matters. Nobody is going to be signing in that week and anybody who has an interest in coaching for us will certainly hear from us.
Another way to look at it is that if we make the playoffs it means we win our next two games and are therefore a more attractive on-the-cusp team for the new person who may want to come in.
I say at worst it's a wash.

Unless we make the NFC Championship, I still think Sing is gone.
-And if/when Sing is gone, 4-star coaches will be pining to come to us cause we have playoff talent/nucleus of good players locked up for the next 3-4 years.
Seriously, for all the things that are wrong with this team it's still pretty obvious that we're a good team with one of the most ignorant/stubborn/s**tty coaches in the NFL. You get a coach that can make use of the talent (a four-star offensive coach), he can get us to the NFC Championship by next season.

I'm sure jed realizes that making the playoffs at 7-9 is more lucky than good and you can't keep Singletary with the total lack of progress this season

Singletary was the "hot" hire. Everyone was all for him, because he brought accountability to the table, something that Nolan failed at miserably. I wont fault Jed on that one.
Im not a fan of the Yorks, however I have seen their willingness to open the pocketbook and get whoever will help this team win. When Nolan first arrived on the scenes, John York basically handed him a blank check and asked him to bring whoever he felt was needed to get this team right. We got McCloughan who was considered a top tier guy at the time. Then Nolan went out and got top ranked FAs like Clements and Lewis. Sure, everything came tumbling down........but the Yorks arent as "conservative" as everyone would like them to seem. Sure, Id love to have a Mark Cuban or Jerry Jones on the sidelines as well........but thats just not the case in reality.
I think Jed will go out and get the right guy.........hopefully, we dont miss out on the Jon Gruden sweepstakes..........

no...obviously it hurts draft position, but i dont think making the playoffs deters a top coach from coming in...i feel making the playoffs would make any coach think that we are close to where we need to be despite how awful we've looked all season
