You would I'm sure but reality Val is that the Nats would never make the deal.

A year from now if Strasburg is pitching like this then maybe i would consider it, but you cant think that trading Lincecum for Strasburg is a good deal right now.


Lincecum is only what 24-25 years old, you are set with him for the next 10 years there is no reason to trade him he is not old at all.

The deal set was really a 3 for 3. I like Zimmerman MUCH more than Panda and like Harpers upside more than Posey's for the long run. I still like Posey a lot by the way.
My point was that the trio of Strasburg, Harper, and Zimmerman were more likely if they all hit their potential to lead you to the WS and be a great team. I really believe that but obviously in the minority in here.

you would be giving up a hell of alot for hoping that the dudes you just traded for hit their potential

I have no doubt whatsoever that Strasburg will. Harper would be the one I'd be most worried about.

Of course I do. You have to give up something to get something. Do you realize how good Evan Longoria is? Have you watched Price throw at all? He leads the AL in wins and era despite pitching in the toughest division in baseball. Yanks, Sox, and Jays are 3 VERY tough teams to pitch against. Longoria.. probably one of the top 3 players in baseball under the age of 25.

Price and Longoria for Lincy and Panda is NOT an unfair deal whatsoever.

One point that hasn't been discussed is that I think that trading a 2-time Cy Young award winner and your best hitter for Ryan Zimmerman and two prospects is a surefire way to lose a locker room, regardless of how good those prospects are.

TBs great defense helps pitchers ERA.

Thats a good point Pete. However, since you are the NBA guru let me ask you this. Do you think Jerry West was smart when he traded an all star center and starter for the Lakers, Vlade Divac ,for a high school kid prospect that had never even played in college? This was for someone that wasnt the top pick like Strasburg but someone that 12 teams had passed on.

I think the genius of Jerry West was that he could see the incredible talent in Kobe Bryant and willing to deal an all star 7 footer for a high schooler. It would take someone with equal vision to deal a 2 time CY winner for prospects like Strasburg and Harper.

Your analogy fails because Vlade Divac was never an All-Star when he was traded for Kobe.
