Bowker, Rohlinger, Uribe today.

Woot for Bowker!!! Hes tied for second the team in HRs (2)
Thats what I mean about Bowker, in 27 at bats he has 5 hits for a .185 average, however his 5 hits have included 2 blasts, a double, and 6 RBIs

His average is second worst on the team for players with over 10 at bats, only to Randy Winn, but boy when he hits the ball, he hits it HARD.

btw Rohlinger is first on the team with 3 HRs

I don't think I'm going out too far on a limb here by saying that Velez will make this team over Bowker.

Man his BA is less than 100 pts over Bowkers. His Slugging and even his on base percentage is lower. Everyone on this board is giving Bowker no chance, but I will be his lone champion (maybe GoFD if he wants to come too)

First cuts of the Spring today
Originally posted by sfgiants.com:

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Making their first mass roster moves of the spring Monday, the Giants optioned left-hander Pat Misch to Triple-A Fresno and reassigned right-handers Ramon Ortiz and Ronald Ray, catcher Todd Jennings and first baseman-outfielder Josh Phelps to Minor League camp.

Manager Bruce Bochy said that Phelps could return to Major League camp once he overcomes an injured shoulder and plays in some Minor League exhibitions or camp intrasquad games. Phelps, who entered camp as a long shot to claim a reserve role, was 0-for-8 in four Cactus League games.

Misch, the only player in the group who was on the 40-man roster, is 0-7 with a 5.00 ERA in 34 appearances (including 11 starts) spanning parts of three seasons with the Giants. He and Ortiz had outside chances to claim a long relief role on the Opening Day roster but recorded ERAs of 21.00 and 19.29, respectively, in three Cactus League appearances apiece. Ray had a 13.50 ERA in four outings.

Jennings, a member of the Giants organization since 2003, recently underwent season-ending elbow surgery.

The moves left 49 players remaining on the spring roster.

That is 24 players on a 25 man roster. I am not sure if they will carry 11 or 12 pitchers. If they carry 11 then Uribe will be the pick in my opinion to be the 25th. I think they would want Bowker and Rohlinger to play everyday in the minors.
I can agree with you that Bowker and Rohlinger could be better off playing everday in the minors hoping to develop them rather than ride the pine. And of course they would probably be near the top in call ups in the case of injury.
Not a spectacular line-up, but no glaring weaknesses.

Taschner bothers me.

Bowker needs more consistency at the plate. His fielding leaves much to be desired.
I like your 24. I think the 25th should be a pitcher -- Billy Sadler. Maybe Perdomo or Matos.

With Aurilia, Frandsen and Velez, I don't think we'd need to keep Uribe. He could be first call-up (if he's willing to go down to Fresno).

I like the idea of the 25th man being Uribe. But sometime in Late May or early June we will need the 12th pitcher. Who gets optioned?
